1. Not Verifying Credentials
Are you too busy to do thorough background checks? More than half of employers say that at some time they have not checked a candidate’s credentials before hiring. Since more than 75 percent of employee applications contain errors or omissions, it's risky not to do background screening . Bad hires cost time and money.
2. Trusting Your Gut
Sometimes employers ignore the background check results, thinking that they are a better judge of character than the reports are. Having a consistent screening process is the best way to minimize the likelihood of a bad hire.
3. Using Social Media during Screening
In today’s world, almost everyone participates in some form of social media. Employees use Facebook, Twitter and other sites to disclose private information. Many employers scan these platforms to screen applicants. Employers risk allowing personal information to cloud judgment, which can lead to illegal discriminatory decisions. Lawsuits can be expensive.
Being careful during recruitment will save time and lower training costs. If you stick to these tips, you minimize your chance of a bad hire.

8 年Interesting. I totally agree with 1 and 2 but I always check social media. And you are right, it does change my mind. For sales positions they have to know how to use social media or I can't hire them. It will take them too long to ramp up if they are not already fluent. They need to be using all the social media they are on in a way that is establishing their brand as an expert in their field. If I see otherwise, unless all else is amazing, I probably won't hire them.
