I always remind my clients that wealth is not only your bank balance. The word, “wealth” comes from an Old English word, “weal,” which means well-being. When you realize that wealth includes all areas of your life - mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial - it clarifies the areas where you may be sabotaging yourself.
Let’s look at three of the most common challenges that women face with money and wealth building. It’s also powerful to identify the barriers from the lens of each area of your life.
- Lack of Confidence or Financial Knowledge:Mental: Many women believe they don’t have the necessary financial acumen to make informed decisions. They may have accepted societal expectations that men know more about money and wealth creation.Emotional: Fear of making mistakes or being judged by others can be paralyzing. There can also be feelings of inadequacy when comparing oneself to others who seem more financially savvy.Spiritual: This issue can stem from deeply rooted beliefs that money is not within a woman's domain or that they're not destined to be wealthy or financially independent.Solution: Education is key. Attending workshops, reading financial books, or hiring a financial advisor can boost knowledge and confidence.Emotionally, seeking support groups or therapy can help process feelings.Spiritually, it's essential to redefine your relationship with money and understand that financial well-being already exists, but you can’t see it because of limiting beliefs. Meditating daily and journaling is the way home. Listen to this meditation and it will shift your inner perspective.
- Overwhelm from Multiple Responsibilities:Mental: Women often juggle various roles – caregiver, professional, mother, spouse, etc. This can make it hard to prioritize or even think about financial planning.Emotional: The pressure and stress from these multiple roles can lead to feelings of exhaustion, making it even harder to find the energy or motivation to focus on finances.Spiritual: Feeling a lack of purpose or direction, and not seeing financial planning as part of one's holistic well-being.Solution: Mentally, break down tasks into manageable steps and set clear financial goals. Emotionally, ask for help and practice mindfulness to reduce overwhelm. Spiritually, know that financial well-being is interconnected with overall well-being.
- Past Traumas or Negative Money Experiences:Mental: Past experiences, such as growing up in poverty or being in debt, can shape a person's perspective on money, making it hard to see the potential for future financial growth.Emotional: Traumas lead to feelings of shame, guilt, or anxiety when it comes to finances. These negative emotions prevent open discussions about money or the pursuit of financial goals.Spiritual: When you believe that you are undeserving of financial abundance or that money is inherently evil or problematic, you create the bars of your internal prison.Solution: Addressing past traumas often requires professional help, such as therapy or financial counseling.Emotionally, open conversations with trusted individuals can help process feelings.Spiritually, revisit and redefine your beliefs around money can be transformational. When you can see the growth that happened, it changes the story you told yourself. Start a Money Journal to help you identify and process the past with a clear and present awareness.
As you begin the journey of uncovering hidden beliefs, making different choices in the moment, and connecting to your inner wealth, your world shifts from fear to love.
Women are inner-directed. We live from our inner world, which includes our mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.
When you discover your essence - that drop of Divine Love that you always carry - you will have recovered your wealth.
Rumi said it best: “Your wealth is your essence.”
Fear dissolves in the light of essence. The challenges identified earlier become opportunities when love pervades your mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.
Think of it as sunlight spreading across the curvature of the earth. As the earth slowly spins, more sunlight illuminates the dark corners of the world. It touches everything and transforms it.
The same is true of your essence. As you connect and allow it to be expressed by you, it’s light spreads to all the dark corners of your life. When you become your essence, you are present to Life and Love. No longer judging yourself or others, Life moves through you. You become open to receive the light and share it with others.
Your doing springs from being. And that changes everything.
