*(Inspiration)

The Parker Solar probe is cooking along (literally in speed, and close to the sun). It's going to pass within about 7 million kilometers of the surface, and next pass, at about 6 million kilometers. How fast? Around 635,266 kilometers per hour. Or about New York to London in about 30 seconds. Here's a couple fun links to learn about our wonderful provider of light and warmth. (We'd be pretty chilly without it!)

*(Inspiration) Motivation vs Inspiration.

The words we use matter. History has a story of Cortez burning his ships, thus his crew was well motivated. (Technically, it appears he scuttled them, but regardless, there were no ships to go return to their former home.) In Sun Tzu's the Art of Warfare, he also indicates before a tough assault where there is likely no going back, slaughter the livestock, feast and eat all the food before going to battle. Motivation to move forward. What is it based on though. Survival. To (possibly) survive, one must move forward. The catch with motivation is it is temporary. Once the crisis is over, or a new place of comfort is found, it can easily wane. So, do you really want to be motivated?? Or is there a better word, a better path? How about Inspiration or being Inspired? Here, with inspiration, the brain operates at a higher level, above the fight/flight of survival. For me, a few things that inspire me are learning/teaching, travel, investing, making an impact. Some quality questions for you: What really lights you up, where you lose track of time and space while doing it? What do you keep close around you? Are you acting in line with what you value and love? If so, it's your natural fuel which will help power you through the ups and downs.

*(Leadership) What I'm Reading - How to Present to an Audience That Knows More Than You by Deborah Grayson Riegel

The author in this article, a seasoned executive coach, shares their experience of facing self-doubt when presenting to a group of fellow coaches who had more experience than them. They realized they had a choice: to be intimidated by the experts or to leverage their collective expertise for the benefit of the attendees. They chose the latter and engaged in self-affirmation to overcome their initial self-doubt. They emphasize the importance of intellectual humility, being willing to admit errors, and inviting the expertise and experience of others without letting them take over the presentation. The author also highlights the need to balance the level of the conversation with the needs and expectations of the target audience. For leaders or aspiring leaders, it's a great article on getting past impostor syndrome, feeling lesser, and being resourceful, by pivoting to facilitating or encouraging other expert insights. Enjoy!

Tell me… Are you coming to me for these things? Allowing me to do the heavy lifting? Enjoying the journey?

The Parker Solar Probe analogy is fire (pun intended). Makes me wonder if my goals are moving at "New York to London in 30 seconds" speed... ?? Definitely food for thought (and maybe some solar-powered motivation ??). Thanks for the inspiring read!
