This week is action packed!
*(Inspiration / Leadership / Self Mastery) - The 3 Delusions. If you've been following along for a while, I've been studying brain science along the way. The whole mind body connection, and how the brain tries to express it self. There are patterns in humans that reveal where thinking is coming from. The lower animal brain, or the higher logical brain.
Dr .Albert Ellis (Should, Must , Have to, Need to - these words are clues into the lower, more reactive, brain being active.)
These are the 3 basic musts that people use to upset themselves.
- CIRCUMSTANCES: I must get what I want when I want it, and I must not get what i don’t want. If I don’t get what i want I can’t stand it. Leads to self pity and procrastination
- OTHERS: Other people must treat me fairly and kindly and if they dont’ they are no good and they deserve to be condemned and punished. Leads to rage, passive aggression, and acts of violence.
- SELF: I must do well or else I am no good. Leads to anxiety, depression shame, and guilt.
These three core distortions are what people use to upset themselves. These distortions are not real. If you can understand these, one can logically peel away the layers. For instance, a circumstance might be I don't have enough time? Some introspection may find that it's just fear of starting while feeling busy. Which is a good time to start, since one will be busy down the road anyway so may as well figure it out while busy so it's easier in the future. Or perhaps one uses their cell phone to scroll through social media. The time is there, where are you consuming it? Others, are you deferring or subordinating to another person? Are you seeking permission or support? Hopefully the latter. Self, tends to be avoidance, because now you have to confront you. Fear of deciding creeps in... whoa, I need more time, ok... to think about what? It's not time, it's information you might need, but what is it that you fear, confront that, and make a choice in the general direction of where you'd like to be or go. Finding yourself stuck? What distortion are you facing? If we can take apart the animal brain reactivity, we can move further up into logical choices, and set ourselves on a new path.
*(Protection)
Granted, this is from Canada, and not the US, but even from an international laws perspective, it's good to be aware of what other bits of common law may bleed over into other countries. In this case, a farmer was contractually bound to deliver to the contract due to a "thumbs up emoji" in a text conversation. It was argued, that the thumbs up, was related to confirming receipt of the former message, but the counter argument was that it was an agreement to the contract in the discussion. The takeaway? In a digital society, be mindful, use clarity, conciseness, and articulation, or even pause and review before hitting send.

What if we found a new path that defies the known laws of physics. Bonus, what if it opens doors to the rest of our solar system? Scientists have put the quantum drive through paces here on earth, which conflicts with newton's third law. They netted some outcomes, had 3rd parties test it, and still couldn't find something that would discount the thrust being produced. The only place to test it further is to rule out earth and put it up in space and see what happens. (Science Baby! Woo!) This October, it's being put to the test. What's the goal? To see if this quantum drive can move it self to higher orbits or lower orbits, on command. Worst case, Newton physics gives them a universal smack down and the satellites just drift and eventually burn up in the atmosphere. Best case, we found a new means for propulsion without having to carry reaction mass to eject and move. Oh and we get a whole lot more questions! (Funny thing about our universe, I think it takes great pleasure in allowing for 1 new found answer to produce at least 2 more questions. Just to ensure we don't run out of challenge)
*(What I'm Reading, Again) - Remember, for the good books you find, read 5x and act upon them!
The Noticer Returns by Andy Andrews.
How do we begin to change the culture in which we live? What is the key to creating a life of success and value? What if what we think is the end…is only the beginning?
Are you designing your life?
*(What I Finished Reading) The Expanse, by James A Corey. Watch the Amazon (formerly SyFy) series, then read the books for the depth. It is a fantastic journey into politics, human nature, space travel, the challenges, human nature, and how history can repeat. It really is an exceptional series. And if that isn't enough, there's a bonus book with some short stories that dive into some of the side characters in the series. I can't recommend this book series enough. Yes, its partly an addictive escape, but there are a lot of life lessons within it around the human condition and how we all operate together.
The Expanse Book Series.
Memory's Legion
*(Inspiration / What I'm Reading) - Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss. Tim put some interesting thought into open ended questions to really draw out the "who" someone is. He hit up a large number of well recognized folks and I'm sure more than one will resonate with you. I found myself bookmarking many of them to come back for quote or items to remember. In one instant, one person revealed they have a quirk about journaling with glitter pens - I laughed because I know a person who has a similar cute quirk (No, it wasn't me, but it is an example of how things may resonate). Here's the real real. If you think you are alone in your challenges, confusion, stumbles, failures, and successes, you aren't. We're all on a journey, and sometimes we stumble and fall, and that's ok. There's things to learn, things to wake up to, things we may not have been aware of, that takes us to a new level. This book has a wealth of reminders and may open your eyes to something you may not be seeing.

“Easiest way to develop a skill: Do it enough times it would be unreasonable for you to be bad.” -- Alex Hormozi
Growth catalyst for stuck, ambitious leaders. Chaos & confusion kills momentum and confidence. Uncertainty and overwhelm cause inaction. I help you gain clarity, make an impact and get results with limited resources.
