After 24 years, ELC's Mid-Level Manager's Symposium continues to break new ground and records as it welcomed nearly 1,000 black leaders for a two-day seminar aimed to learn and network in a safe setting.
To be in a room full of black, successful and thriving professionals was surreal. Check out a few inspiring quotes and lessons learned at #MLMS2018.
If you tell me you can't find black talent, you're not looking. -Skip Spriggs President & CEO, The Executive Leadership Council
We are everywhere. As a first generation college graduate, my professional successes have often been a result of trial and error. I'm often the only or one of very few in the room who look like me. Through this experience, I gained a sense of strength in knowing that there others out there like me and I've committed to being a role model to young women of color. You can't be what you can't see and I intend to make myself much more visible within my community.
Be Black. Unapologetically Black. -Laysha Ward Chief Engagement Officer, Target
Be authentic and change the narrative. It is our responsibility to show up as the authentic and best version of ourselves everyday. Code switching between work and home is stressful and unnecessary. If an organization doesn't accept you for who you are, it's time to move on. #welcometowakanda
If you give a company, job title, or salary the ability to make you feel important, then you also give it the ability to make you feel unimportant. -Leilani Brown SVP, K12, Inc.
We are powerful. Our perspectives and experiences are real, relevant and should be leveraged as a competitive advantage. We must continue to challenge the status quo and offer innovative solutions that address the unique opportunities we face for bottom line impact.
I walked away from #MLMS2018 with an expanded network, increased knowledge and much different than when the experience started. Grateful and full of energy, I am committed to empowering others like me to dream bigger than they've ever dreamed and plan to win.
