Threads: The New App on the block

In the past year, many users have been looking for alternative social media platforms due to Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter (you can read more about this here ). Several apps have attempted to replace it, but only one has come close - Threads by Instagram .

Threads , an alternative to Twitter , was launched in July 2023. Within four days of launch, it had over 100 million user signups, making it seem like it was here to stay. Threads had the backing of Instagram 's 2 billion users and the experience of Meta 's successful apps, making it less likely to make mistakes like other failed alternatives.

It initially seemed that Threads had the potential to become a popular app, but it failed to sustain its momentum. Within days of its launch, the number of daily active users started to decline, which didn't motivate creators and brands to shift their focus from Twitter to Threads . Additionally, Threads lacks essential features that Twitter offers, such as a dedicated trending news feed, hashtags, and keywords. Users are also required to create an Instagram account before they can create a Threads account. Furthermore, Monetization and Advertisements are other factors that Meta needs to improve. Until these issues are addressed, it is unlikely that Threads will ever gain enough traction to compete with Twitter .

Nevertheless, it appears that the executives in charge of Instagram are paying attention to the needs and suggestions of its users. They have been swift in implementing new features and updates that users have requested. Hopefully, this means that Threads will soon be able to compete directly with Twitter and provide a more user-friendly microblogging social media platform, giving users a reason to switch.
