Threads or not to Threads?
To Threads or not to Threads?
When working for the parent company at Meta, I did somewhat question the whole gambit into the Metaverse. Good idea I thought, but a bit early. I also felt why not just buy some firm rather than build it, ala the purchase of Instagram?
Then, Threads.
A new social media platform, that syncs to Instagram, allowing for ease of use and no need to 'build a following'. Threads was the fastest growing social media platform on earth. According to Forbes ' More than 100 million users have joined Meta's new Threads platform, a feat the Twitter rival has achieved in less than five days, making the Twitter competitor the fastest-growing online platform in history.'
Mark Zuckerberg recently said that half have left; an exodus of 50,000,000 members.
The risk of not getting involved early in a platform is 'missing out' on the growth. In one ear I've got Gary V saying "join, particpate, keep going, do not miss out, don't be a dummy". Then I've got apathy.
There's a lot of people on it, but it feels like there's a LOT of people in a room, but no one is talking.

Should one keep posting on Threads? Another story comes to mind. In 2011 I was asked if a friend should invest in Bitcoin. I said do not touch it, as it has no real tangible value, like earnings, or a use. Classic advice there.
Yeh. I'm not always right. Google understandingly, won't let me scroll back to the price at 2011.
My verdict?
Posting content is monetarily free, but, takes energy and time. To do it well, often takes new staff, new skills or both.
What will I do, probably I'll post a bit there to a nominal amount, maybe 100 threads(is that what they'll be?)/posts
Once the platform builds community, and has ads, users & firms might add it to the roster of platforms to post to/advertise on. If it gets added to the social media management automation tools like Hootsuite, I expect adoption & community to grow. That said Meta has to crack the engagement question, how can they engage users & stem users from leaving? Early to tell, maybe add engaging features, above and beyond the competitors? Incentivise engagement in some way? Let's see what happens. Watch this space!
