Threads of change: How a tailoring program is transforming communities in Bangladesh

Why tailoring? In Bangladesh, it's more than just a skill – it's a respected profession that allows women to balance work with family life. With minimal investment and educational requirements, tailoring provides steady income opportunities in both rural and urban settings.?

The impact speaks for itself. Since launch, we've established six training centers, empowering 240 women with comprehensive skills in 2023. Today, an impressive 195 of these graduates have started income-generating activities, earning an average of 43.36 USD over five months. More significantly, 80% of participants now contribute consistently to their family's income and their children's education.?

But this program goes beyond teaching sewing skills. Our integrated approach includes:?

  • Technical training in 25 local designs, from traditional wear to boutique fashion?

  • Business education covering financial literacy and credit management?

  • Daily sessions on women's health and well-being?

  • Formation of women's support networks for sustainable growth?

The multiplier effect is clear. Graduates become trainers, sharing their skills with others. They establish independent businesses, create local employment, and strengthen community bonds. With 13 new training centers and 540 additional women joining in 2024, we're scaling this impact significantly.?

Looking ahead to 2025, we're set to expand to 1,300 women across Bangladesh's growing regions, establishing a collaborative bridge between local markets, buyers, and NGOs. It's more than economic empowerment – it's about building stronger, more resilient communities where families can thrive.?
