Thoughts on a Rainy Sunday Morning
Sunday Mornings are always the best.
Especially if you had just spent the Saturday evening listening to a great Podcast by Shane Parish and Angela Duckworth (Author of the bestselling book - Grit)
You begin to think about certain perspectives and thoughts that on a normal day you do not think about.
You start wondering what kind of person you are. You wonder if you are objective in your thinking or if you allow circumstances make decisions for you.
You wonder how you react under pressure and if you are generally a strong willed person.
You wonder if you are resilient and can handle anything life throws at you or if you would throw in the towel when the going gets tough.
Then a tiny voice comes along, reminding you that you are just 22 and yet to face most of Life's problems. "What will you do then, especially as your current problems are so hard on you?", the voice sneers.
You brush it off and start thinking of Willpower and Rules.
You know Willpower can get anything done but to what extent? Sometimes, you can not seem to control your willpower especially when you are tired and need to calm the loud voices in your head.
You think back to the Podcast you listened yesterday. Angela Duckworth said Rules are better than Will power but to what end? Wouldn't that be too much rules?
You think of your own life and how you have successfully implemented Habits and Consistency. You know that having good habits makes your life easier as it removes the mental struggle you normally would have to go through each time you want to make a decision.
But are Habits similar to Rules? Does it mean you have to create rules in addition to creating habits? Wouldn't it be too much?
You have no answer to that.

You make a steaming cup of Tea. After all, Life is once.
You pick up an old journal. Well, not really old as you bought it this year but still, you don't write in it anymore.
You are first confronted with Ryan Holiday's Perception, Action and Willpower.
Willpower again.
You read that Obstacles are not only to be expected but should be embraced. You smile wryly, thinking on how you could possibly embrace the obstacle in front of you. It is literally impossible.
You think about how Ryan Holiday (your favourite author by the way) sounds so similar to Angela Duckworth.
What do they mean by saying Perception is everything. What do they mean by saying You have a choice on how to respond to every situation?
They say "you will come across obstacles in Life - Fair and Unfair. And you will discover, time and time again, that what matters most is not what these obstacles are, but how you see them, how you react to them and whether you keep your composure"
But you think "wouldn't it be better to never have these problems in the first place?"
And they say "These obstacles come to test you, to try you and ultimately lead you to triumph"
They say that "THE OBSTACLE IS THE WAY"
You smile and await the next newsletter from Shane Parrish.
