Thoughts Overload

This morning I am suffering from thoughts overload.
For the last month or so, I have slept like a baby, but this morning, 3.00am, I am wide awake and writing about it.
I woke up with various random thoughts going through my head, you know those semi-conscious half truths about what is going on in life, only to wake properly and to put the thoughts into context.
I will be the first to admit that I’m an over thinker, hence writing at this daft hour, but what has prompted the staring into this brightly lit screen surrounded by the darkness of the night?
I am going through everything in my head that I need to do today, everything I should have done but haven’t, who to speak to, what to send, what to write, who to call, who to email, what meetings are happening, who is visiting site etc, you know the kind of thing.
Why has my brain decided to overload? Who knows, it does that sometimes and can be quite overwhelming, crushing in fact.
We should not beat ourselves up about this, we can cut ourselves some slack, we are living in the most oddest of worlds, social turmoil on a scale that only a handful of people have ever witnessed before.
I have found that if I write about things, it releases some of the burden, a cathartic experience, it doesn’t lessen the thought overload, but I feel as If I have acknowledged it and I am ready to strike some big tasks off the list.
Here is hoping that if you are suffering from the same thing, you manage to clear your head and get to focus on the important things, but most of all, if there is any business you need to take care of today, it is the business of taking care of you.

4 年Not this morning Chris but I often experience the same and feel it's pretty unavoidable when you work in 'operations'. Continuous thoughts and ideas are what drive me to develop the work I love, yet I definitely wish I could choose WHEN I have them lol People assume I'm anxious/worried about things, yet I know I'm just hugely excited about the potential of new ideas...not sure how to curb that? I write notes in the night if needed and during the day, I add random thoughts to a Trello board so I can return to them after I've finished working on what I may have been distracted from. Short daily walks also provide space to calm my mind.

4 年I keep a notebook by my bed. The front half of it is a gratitude journal that I write in every night. The back half of it is for the things that may pop into my head as I'm trying to sleep - they get written down, usually in the dark, and in the morning I may laugh at my written-in-the-dark handwriting but putting pen to paper lets me stop thinking about things and sleep ?? I love this --> "if there is any business you need to take care of today, it is the business of taking care of you" Thanks for sharing!
