There are moments in everyone's life where everything stalls. I mean, literally everything. Be it at a personal, social, professional level or all 3 together at the same time. Whether it's a 'manually-induced' stall or not a voluntary one, these things typically come together. When it rains, it pours. And that's not only fine but always a good opportunity. That moment is called 'transition' and it's one of the greatest (and deepest) intellectual times one can have with him/herself. We're otherwise often too busy on our respective rat wheel races - too often on ones we have not really chosen to rattle too long on. One should welcome or induce that 'down time' to rethink actions and redraw bearing points to redefine new and solid horizon lines. And then, when you least expect it, everything starts falling back into place and getting up to speed. This time though, on the right path and at the right pace. Mind over matter but mostly, action and will over everything else.

9 年Couldn't agree more, Mehdi Khaled! Clearing one's mind by taking some time off whether its a couple of months or even a year can be the best thing anyone can do. Sadly however, I find that this is more of an accepted practice outside of Singapore and Asia. Mindsets need to change. Whether one is transitioning and considering a career switch or is planning on remaining in their current job, time off certainly allows one to clear their mind, gather their thoughts and return more focused and productive than before. Perhaps that's why some companies want their employees to do this and provide a sabbatical once you work for them for a number of years. These companies are way ahead of the game.
Very very true Mehdi - I know that when I left Oracle in 2013 and went sailing for 3 months in the pacific that this was the most effective transition I have ever had - it made for an excellent period of reflection and certainly helped with resetting the clock

9 年Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Mehdi. I agree with you, New Year resolutions are another marketing thing. If you would like to start/make something the time is now.
