Thoughts

Sitting on the mat, legs crossed as Padamasana with my eyes closed. I was trying to concentrate on the point between my eyebrow i.e. the sixth chakra known as Agna Chakra. And I clearly remember the voice in the meditation audio telling me in the very beginning to clear my mind and focus on the point with all the concentration.

With this, I welcome you to the world of ‘Thoughts’.

A thought is one of the most powerful tools to make or break something. They have the power to help you in achieving your goals or could become the reason for your fall.

Don’t believe me?

Well, I’d like to quote Norman Vincent Peale

“Change your thoughts and you change your world.”

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Law of Attraction. It is a way to your dreams by making amends in your thought process. I came across this in the first semester of my college life. I found it to be fascinating. The thought of thinking about achieving something just with the power of my thoughts was extremely overwhelming.

I started practising in my day-to-day life. From calming myself after a bad day to keeping my spirits high on a rough day, I applied it in all instances. Over a period of time, I saw changes in the way I started interpreting things. There was a change in my life that I wasn’t anticipating.

I was a person with short-lived motivation but I became a person who was more determined & focussed to complete the task I started. I used to be a person who would get mad at even the smallest of things. But after this, I used to stay calm in the worst times too. So much so that sometimes I even surprised myself. (funny how things work!)

Nevertheless, the varied categories of thoughts are all the result of processing information in our heads. Even dreams are categorised by a few researchers as thoughts. The only difference is that dreams are considered to be the thoughts of our sub-conscious mind.

I certainly believe that thought is the food of the mind, by our mind & for the mind.

It is said in the ancient scriptures that the mind can never be at rest & the one that masters this, is a superior being in himself. I tend to agree. Nothing can ever make the mind stop other than death, of course.

For instance, try to go thoughtless for 10 seconds just as you complete reading this sentence.

Did it work? What was on your mind? Food? Nature? Travelling? Books? Friends? Family?

I can bet, there was one or the other thing going on in your head.

The conclusion of this small activity is simple.

We have no control over our mind or the thoughts. Not at least subconsciously. No matter how hard a normal brain tries, keeping the mind completely empty is a tedious task to execute.

I’m sure some of you’ll argue that you came out of the activity successful but try it again & again. You’ll fail miserably, and no this isn’t to demotivate you.

The point of the jibber-jabber being we need to hold the reins of our thoughts. If we can’t stop thinking, we certainly can think of something productive or positive.

Our thoughts are considered to be a reflection of ourselves. How we express ourselves in front of others, how we behave, how we act in a certain situation, everything paints a silhouette of our thoughts.

So, if thoughts play so important role in our daily lives, why aren’t we made aware of them?

Well, some say that religion is a path on which the thoughts change. Some people believe in karma, the ultimate teacher. Others say that nothing like that matters and people these days have made it a point to bring out stupid points each day to scare the human race.

In any way, the thought is what is inducing these answers. Whatever you believe in is conveyed through your words and it isn’t even intentional.

Another example of how thoughts affect us.

Let’s come to talk about one more.

Overthinking. This is one of the biggest issues I’ve experienced in and around me.

You yourselves build a scenario in your head and act accordingly which can be either doing something or doing nothing at all. And in a lot of cases, it’s observed that the scenario was just in our head and we acted irrationally.

Getting the hold of what exactly I’m trying to put on the plate in front of you?

Thoughts can be encouraging or devastating & I agree that we don’t have a remote control to change the course of our thoughts. But we, undeniably, can manifest a positive thought to negate the effects of the destructive thought process.

I just want to conclude by sharing a small experience of mine.

Until a few weeks ago, I was sceptical of starting my own blog. I was not sure if people would read it or like my work. But I manifested a small seed of thought –

WHAT IF THEY DID? WHAT IF YOU ARE APPRECIATED?

And this made me start this blog that a lot of people have appreciated & look forward to every alternate day.

Hope this helps you channel your thoughts & make a difference.
