Thoughts for this edition of Sunday Reads
I am a keen reader of the Annals of Enquiry section of the New Yorker. I read it every single Sunday that I can.
This morning, I was reading an essay titled: Are we who we say we are? The essay is a deeply thoughtful meditation on the passage of time and-what was particularly appealing to me- the difference in how every individual perceives their self-image differently. We often talk about the growth mindset versus the fixed mindset, but this essay is far more nuanced than that.
Which really, is a good segue for me to say that a lot of the times, clients that I work with, ask me for a perspective. As I worked on resumes and cover letters and linkedin profiles for a while, it made me understand the need for coaching and teaching. So many people want to untangle the knots in their career graph. So many others want to learn how to write good emails for business. And each one may have a unique motivation for why they choose to do it.
It is not always people who wish to change jobs that approach me. It could even be people who are working towards self-improvement. Or who have been in the same organization for three decades and want to build a personal brand where they use their domain knowledge to educate others. How we see ourselves plays such a large part in how we interact with and navigate challenges and complexities that the world throws at us.
