Thoughts of an aspiring polyglot coder

Variables, expression statements, decisions, loops, classes, collections, etc. They were all similar. Steve Jobs alluded the computer to something as being the bicycle of the mind. I agree with him. The dumb machines simply perform instructions at an extraordinary speed. These instructions, encoded in programming languages… all seemed to have the same pattern for me.

If I know the constructs in one language, I should be able to whip out web applications in other languages, right? I mean, if I can easily crank out a generalized multiplication function in PHP, Javascript, Java, Python, C# then I should be able to write a production-ready web application in five of them, right?

A basic CRUD application in four different languages should not over task me or any other experienced web developer on the streets. I mean wouldn’t it be fun to switch from being Pythonic to the .NET way on a whim. What great power will that confer? Think about it? More tools in the box, more personal value (ascribed and otherwise) who wouldn’t want that?

I decided that I would turn polyglot, I took the decision some time ago, I have not been a resounding success, neither would I say I have failed. It has been fun. A lot of dots from previous years are finally connecting. It has been quite an experience, to say the least. I can say that being an aspiring polyglot coder is a worthwhile pursuit. Please walk with me as we take the journey towards the world of the polyglot web developer.

Please visit my blog, as I document my experiences and also share other "tidbits". Sorry, it is still under development as at the time of posting this article. Looking forward to meeting you on this journey.
