Closing out the month with the June edition of my monthly newsletter, LinkedIn 360. For today’s newsletter, we’ll be exploring themes from artificial intelligence to building IP and much more. I also had the pleasure to attend the 2023 Cannes Lions International Advertising festival in France - had an amazing time meeting with people around the world in the marketing industry!!

Brands and companies have got to understand where we are in a 2023 world.. and that means realizing that the landscape of marketing and branding is changing at a pace we haven’t seen in decades!
I think the whole concept of “test and learn” has made this whole town diminish the value of a social media ad. Because it’s a “test and learn,” it thus renders it to be smaller in people’s heads.. But in reality, individual pieces of social media ads and content sell more product than everything else in the world.
Today, in the world, in real life, more stuff will be bought because of social media creative than any other advertising format in the world… yet, this town and this industry will continue to completely diminish and misunderstand that that’s the real advertising, in lieu of getting excited about a 30 second video that nobody on earth actually consumes, aka traditional television commercials.?
CEOs, agencies, brands .. we need to get excited about where the industry’s headed instead of stuck on where it’s been in the past. The social-first approach is really just common sense marketing! It’s time to get on board and leverage the power of social media to take your brand and community building and cultural relevance to the next level!?
The answer to finding the “next big thing” is being a “yes” person versus a “no” person, and to the “yes people” reading this right now, the next big thing is obvious… it’s called artificial intelligence.
Most people are “no” people – they said “no” to TikTok, “no” to ChatGPT, “no” to VR, “no” to AR and “no” to AI because they fear new things. People just say “no, no, no” when the world is always “yes, yes, yes.”?
I promise you … whether it’s big technology shifts or small stuff like a new concept at work, a new manager, or a new strategy, fall in love with YES and stop defaulting to NO and watch your life and business change for the better.?
Many of you know I’m in the early, early days of building VeeFriends into what I hope will be an extremely impactful and lasting IP in culture. The VeeFriends Cards, content, and our exciting new biz dev opportunity with VeeFriends Vending Machines are all a part of that mission. That being said,? I don’t think a lot of people really understand just how massive IP and identity of what collectibles you own, or what fashion you wear, or what car you drive, or what watch you have really is!

Think about it.. For every person that collects sneakers, art, comic books or sports cards, there’s another thousand people that collect marbles, matchboxes, antique belt buckles, vintage clothes… and now IP and collectibles are taking on an even bigger life with the world of NFTs and other digital collectibles.?
Building a brand that’s omnichannel through thoughtful, relevant IP is something that I think every company and business owner should be executing on.
The TikTokification of Social media has dramatic consequences for creators, brands, service providers, and every small to mid sized business. Before, marketing on social platforms had a similar dynamic to email marketing. With email, you would spend time building a list, and then market to that list. Similarly, with social platforms, you would spend time building up your follower base and then you’d market to that follower base through your content.?
With the TikTokification of Social Media, businesses, creators, and brands don’t need to have a follower base before they can start getting views and engagement. You could create an account on TikTok today, post a few videos over the course of this week, and you actually have a shot at getting thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of views. It just depends on whether your content is good enough or not.?

This one's for those of you worried about AI and what it's going to do to the job market. The reality is, technology has always happened, the tractor, the car, the computer, the plane, the boat, the sword, books ??… these were things that were invented and changed things in big ways .. fear is often the reaction of big new changes but for the individuals here, reading this, understanding that you have the ability to turn this into a positive instead of a negative is the key ?? opportunity in this new reality of A.I.
