Thoughts on 2017
Good morning and Happy New Year! Each year around this time I reflect and put together a list of goals to share with my friends. Last year my list was fairly high-level, so this year I thought I would be a little more specific. In no particular order, my 10 goals for 2017:
1. Skiing – It's 100% ski season right now so this is top of mind. I'm really excited to get more time on the slopes this year. I grew up skiing and it always brings me back. I spend half my time in Colorado for work, so it's easier than ever to get out there. If you'll be skiing in Colorado this year, let me know!
2. Reading – I am excited to be reading Being Mortal and Thinking, Fast and Slow right now. That said, I find it harder and harder to find time to read throughout the year. My goal is to read at least one book a month.
3. Speaking – Next week I'll be speaking at CES and a few weeks later at ISE in Amsterdam. I find public speaking to be a great way for me to focus my message and refine my ability to captivate and tell a story. I hope to speak more this year at conferences, universities, and business functions.
4. Photography – Last year I had a goal of using my DSLR more (see below). I really enjoy this and will make a concerted effort to bring my camera around more.
5. Family – My family is spread across New York, Boston, New Hampshire, Michigan, etc. This past year my niece was born, we spent Thanksgiving in New Hampshire, and my family surprised me in LA for my birthday. I feel blessed to have such a great family and hope to spend more time together in 2017.
6. Politics – I honestly don't know what my goal is here, but 2016 was such a shocking political year I feel I need to re-engage somehow. I'm not sure what this means exactly, but I'll be thinking about it...
7. Cycling – I don't plan on touching my bike until ski season is over, but this spring I'd like to get back on the saddle. Waking up and riding 50+ miles used to be normal for me and I'd like to get going agin.
8. Management – As our company continues to grow I'd like to focus on being a better leader. We have one of the most amazing teams I've had the fortune of working with and as CEO I'd like to make some personal gains in 2017.
9. Running – I didn't grow up running track or training for marathons, but in the last couple years I've really begun to love the sport. Unlike other sports, I notice a substantial change if I continue on a regular schedule as opposed to let a few weeks go by. This year I plan to run a few times a week with a goal of keeping my routine consistent.
10. Josh.ai – In 2015 we started Josh.ai, an artificial intelligence company focused on the home. 2016 was the year we launched and started shipping. In 2017 I'd like to continue our nationwide rollout, possibly expand internationally, continue pushing the limit on what we can do, and release a very exciting stealth product we're currently building. This will be a big year for the company and I'm excited!

I'm sure my goals will evolve as the year presents itself. Now I'd love to hear from you. If things are changing or you have big plans for 2017, let me know. I'm looking forward to catching up soon.
Best,
