What is Waking Rest?

Indulging in unscheduled mornings, that's what it means. Our urban lives have compelled us to wake up on time and get to work. If not work, it's either our morning routine that includes meditation, exercise, yoga, or something else. No matter how healthy it is and how much we should be doing it every day, I strongly suggest you keep some mornings for doing absolutely nothing.?

And I tell you this from my recent experience. In the Maldives, I have had a couple of days where I have woken up with absolutely no plans. I wandered around, got into the water, had breakfast, and slept off again. This is something I had not done in a long time and it made me feel extremely refreshed and energetic.??

According to experts, the method of practice is quite simple.

It involves sitting quietly and “doing nothing.” It often involves sitting 5 to 20 minutes a day, or several times a day quietly with no focused agenda. To reap the benefits of this technique, it is best to perform it in the morning after waking up.?

This technique helps decrease anxiety, and insomnia, and increases productivity and memory.?

1 CONCEPT TO ABSORB

Keep these colleagues closer -

Our colleagues need not necessarily become our friends all the time. If you have observed, as we grow up, not every point of view of our colleagues sits straight with us. We have developed our own thinking and outlook towards work and life. Not everyone might fit into it.

Having said that, some colleagues show their care, respect, and ethics through their actions. You might have a debate about work but as long as both of you are clear that there is nothing personal and both of you are aiming for the project to get done successfully. Methods can differ as long as both of you are ready to accept the best way going forward even if it's not yours.

I strongly recommend that you keep an eye out for these kinds of colleagues and keep them closer. They will challenge you to do better at work, and bring out the best professional in you.

  1. Colleagues who initiate a conversation with a - How Are You?

You might think this is unnecessary, but actually, it shows how much they want to work with you rather than just getting work down from anyone. It's a simple habit but not many professionals have it.

2. Colleagues who miss your call but call back diligently -

Yes, we all miss calls and do not always call back. It's also because we messages instead. But colleagues who call you back after they miss your call clearly suggest they find value in spending that much time with you on the phone.

3. Colleagues who wish, congratulate, and celebrate our special occasions -

In the hybrid/work from anywhere situation, most of us plan our holidays in a way that we don't have to work on important days, birthdays, anniversaries, or even other important milestones. But don't you feel even better when someone from the workplace messages or calls you on the day and talks about something other than work? Keep these colleagues closer. They are rare gems in a professional setup.

4. Colleagues who understand honest mistakes and help us rectify them.

Everyone makes mistakes, be it the CEO or an intern. Good colleagues always look for the intention and genuine efforts put into work before just noticing mistakes. Pointing out mistakes is the easiest part. Wearing other people's shoes is always a momentary luxury. But keep those colleagues closer who help you rectify the mistake, colleagues who tell you, it's ok, you will learn from it.
