What It is (and what it is not)
I was reading a collaborative article here on LinkedIn about thought leadership and somebody had responded that if you have a large to do list, if you don't delegate tasks and have too much on your plate , you are not a thought leader. It had close to 40 likes and thumbs up (which is a lot for collaborative articles And that got me thinking:
There is often confusion about what thought leadership truly means.
Some people mistakenly equate it with leadership as in company leadership or assume it’s just about managing tasks and delegating responsibilities.
However, thought leadership is distinct—it's about providing valuable insights, sharing your unique perspective, and influencing your industry through knowledge and vision.
It’s not tied to how many tasks you delegate or how efficiently you run your company; it’s about the impact and relevance of the ideas you bring to the table.
You can be a solopreneur and have a lot on your plate You can run a multimillion dollar company and still have a large to do list and still be a thought leader.
What is Thought Leadership?

Thought leaders don’t just follow trends—they shape them, inspiring others to innovate and evolve.
It’s important to note that thought leadership is not about self-promotion; it’s about offering real value. genuinely contributing to the growth and evolution of one's field. It requires a combination of expertise, creativity, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively to diverse audiences. and by consistently sharing relevant insights, a thought leader builds credibility and earns the trust of their audience.
