Making progress visible is key to running a commercially successful thought leaders practice.
One of the many remarkable achievements of Peter Cook during his tenure as CEO of Thought Leaders was the implementation of a system to aid thought leaders in tracking progress. What started as a simple spreadsheet evolved into an elegant dashboard, a testament to the power of tracking in practice.
Here, the programmer Nick McElligott walks through how it works.
At the very least, track what you receive, sell and deliver each week in revenue. Black belt running rates ($60,000 a month) are possible, but you must track how you are doing.
Consider adopting a ‘Magic Metric’ in your personal life as well. Just as airlines track on-time departures and hotels track occupancy, I, as a parent, track the number of meals I have with my kids each week and the number of nights I spend with my partner (we live in different states). This ‘Magic Metric’ serves as an early warning system for progress dips or lifts, helping me maintain a balanced life.
