?Straight into 2025… Wait, Where Did January Go?

We blinked, and somehow, it is already February! Thoth has kicked off the year at full speed, and while we intended to send out a January newsletter, well… time had other plans. But fear not.........we are making up for it with plenty of updates.

First things first, our co-founder celebrated another lap around the sun (without aging a day, obviously) and sends a massive thank you for all the birthday wishes! ??

Climate Tech Investment – Qatar’s Green Ambitions in the UK

Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund has been making significant investments into the UK’s climate tech sector, fuelling hopes for accelerated green innovation. But while the financial influx is impressive, the real question is: who truly benefits? Are these investments driving real change, or is this another case of greenwashing? We dissect the numbers, the key players and whether this money is actually helping the UK achieve its net-zero ambitions.

And speaking of big money...

This week, Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed key AI leaders to 10 Downing Street, including Meta, Index Ventures and Wayve. The event underscored the UK’s ambition to lead in AI, with the AI Opportunities Action Plan setting out bold targets…..AI Growth Zones, a twentyfold increase in computing power by 2030 and major investment in emerging technologies.

But as with any leap forward, there are questions. Meta’s track record on data privacy and AI ethics is far from spotless…….will they help drive responsible innovation, or should we be wary of big tech’s increasing influence? Meanwhile, autonomous vehicles promise efficiency and sustainability, but concerns remain around safety, regulation and the impact on jobs. Are we moving too fast without the right safeguards?

For those in sustainability, finance, and tech, this is a pivotal moment. AI is already transforming industries, from optimising renewable energy to streamlining ESG reporting. The UK is positioning itself as a global AI hub……..so where do we fit in?

Biodiversity Decline – The Silent Crisis

The UK is facing an ecological emergency, yet it remains one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. The loss of farmland birds, pollinators and ancient woodlands continues at an alarming rate, threatening the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Despite this, biodiversity remains a backseat issue in political and financial discussions. Why does this matter? Skydiving for Homeless Veterans – Help Us Make a Difference!

At the end of March, we will be taking the plunge……. literally…….by skydiving to raise funds for Hereford Veterans Support Charity (HVSC). With homelessness among veterans still a critical issue, every penny raised will go towards providing food, shelter and support services.
