To those who want to dare
Impostor Syndrome & You

To those who want to dare

This is the last slide of the presentation around Burnout and Impostor Syndrome I created as part of my #employeeretention program, and I want to tell you a little about what my experience with Impostor Syndrome has been.

Impostor Syndrome and Humility

The truth is, and this is going to sting, Impostor Syndrome is very different to humility. Impostor Syndrome is, at its core, believing that you don't belong. Humility is truly believing that you can be taught and that you have the capability and the capacity to learn.

Impostor Syndrome is believing that you CAN'T learn, that you don't belong to the environment you're in and that it would be best to leave before you are found out about. When you believe that, you ostrazise yourself from the group, mentally, and your actions will have you either trying to fit in or retreating, making yourself the odd one out.

I want you to understand something crucial here: We're not all equal. You ARE the odd one out in a lot of ways. You are special. You get to believe that. You are ALSO one in 8 billion other, just as special, human animals. You are ALSO one living organism among many more than you have any idea of, on earth.

You are as special as you are not.

Just for a second, imagine both are true at the same time. Hold space in your mind for both - that you are special AND that you're not and from that space: Look for inspiration. Look to somebody who truly inspires you, and ask yourself:

"Why not me?"
