Thomas Edison's other lightbulb

Thomas Edison's other lightbulb

I was reminded of Mr Edison's quote "Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration" this week, as we worked through a Marketing plan with a client. For many business owners, the 'thinking mistakes' that stall their Marketing efforts are similar:

  • "It takes too long"
  • "I don't have time"
  • "I don't know where to start"

Truth is, broken down to a science, these thinking mistakes are just that. Mistakes. And costly ones when you calculate the financial loss of inaction. For one client, a simple Marketing campaign costing less than $1,000, brought in pipeline revenue of $280,000.

So we take our clients through a 5-step method to turn their pain points into 'gain points'.

  1. Stand out - define your difference
  2. Create a plan
  3. Publish!
  4. Nurture, don't chase
  5. Scale through referrals

And while there is inspiration in all of these steps, there's also a tonne of perspiration! And why we take on this perspiration job on for so many of my clients, who already have 101 things on their plate.
