THIXON? 305 Silicone elastomers (VMQ)Rubber-to-Substrate Bonding

THIXON? 305 is a 1-coat bonding agent to bond silicone elastomers (VMQ) to rigid substrates during vulcanization. The bonds obtained with THIXON? 305 show excellent resistance against elevated temperatures (150°C), oil and hydrolysis.

Silicone rubber chain

Key Properties

  1. Chemical Composition:Solvent-based adhesive with a combination of polymers, fillers, and additives.
  2. Bonding Performance:Forms strong, durable bonds resistant to:High temperatures (up to 150°C).Oil and other hydrocarbons.Hydrolysis (moisture or water exposure).
  3. Substrate Compatibility:Commonly used with:Stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals.Specific rigid substrates that require silicone bonding.
  4. One-Coat System:Eliminates the need for additional primers, reducing preparation time.

Application Methods

  • Preparation:Clean the substrate thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants using degreasing agents like acetone or isopropyl alcohol.Ensure the surface is dry and free of corrosion.
  • Application Techniques:Brushing: Directly apply a uniform coat using a soft brush.Dipping: Submerge the part in the adhesive solution for consistent coverage.Spraying: Requires dilution (commonly 1 part adhesive to 5 parts solvent like MEK or toluene).
  • Drying Time:Allow the adhesive layer to air-dry completely (usually 30–60 minutes at room temperature).
  • Curing Process:Conduct vulcanization with the silicone elastomer under heat and pressure to achieve optimal bonding.

Advantages

  1. Simplified Process:No separate primer required.Excellent adhesive performance in one step.
  2. Resistance Properties:Long-term performance in harsh environments, including exposure to oils and elevated temperatures.
  3. Wide Range of Applications:Suited for automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications where silicone-to-metal bonding is needed.

BONDED -SILICONE RUBBER INSULATORS.

Limitations

  • Requires solvent handling precautions due to the flammable and volatile nature of its solvents (MEK, toluene, etc.).
  • Adhesion strength depends heavily on proper substrate preparation.

Storage and Handling

THIXON-305

  • Shelf Life: 12 months when stored in a tightly sealed container.
  • Storage Conditions:Keep between 5°C–30°C.Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or high humidity.
  • Safety Precautions:Use in a well-ventilated area.Wear protective equipment (gloves, goggles, and respirators) as needed.
