Founder & Agent at Killington Arts Illustration Agency. Facilitating beautiful projects and building careers for over 25 years
This week's 4x4 will investigate a specific area of our artists' creative experience. Whilst all of our illustrators happily straddle the lines between publishing, advertising, editorial and packaging, each navigates specific fields in their own unique way. ?This week we have chosen to look at publishing through some beautiful and often surprising work by Rutu Modan, Kuri Huang, Loris Lora and Joe Morse.
As ever, ?you can see more of their work on our website, social media or Behance pages.
Loris Lora is so well known for her depictions of animals and charming character development, but did you know that she also creates gorgeous portraiture? Her book, The Phenomenal AOC won the Belpre Honor Award for Illustration and her books on Obama and Harriet Tubman have been hugely well received.
If you would like to see more of Loris's work, do visit our website or join us on social media.
Much of Joe Morse's work has an elegant, dark edge to it but this exquisite collaboration with the wonderful Wab Kinew celebrates Canada's indigenous heroes with a different type of powerful imagery. ?Shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award, this book charms and informs in equal measure.?
Having won the Eisner award for her first graphic novel, Exit Wounds, Rutu Modan created a warm-hearted yet nuanced story as her second graphic novel. ?The Property tells the tale of a family trying to reclaim a property that they owed before WWII.
The strength of her style is unmistakable and brings immediacy and charm to this intriguing subject. As she commissions actors to perform the scenes before she draws them, each image has a realness that draws us in and helps us engage in new and surprising ways.
If you would like to see more of her work do please drop by to our website or Behance pages - or just give us a call!

It is perhaps a bit of a cheat to show 4 images at once, but Kuri Huang's powerful and expressive images work so well as a series that it was hard to resist. ?Her delicate and ethereal draftsmanship works its magic in creating harmony and colour balance across a sequence of novels, and these Kriston Cashore titles are no exception. ? More of Kuri's works are available on our Instagram page - or just give us a call!
We'd love to connect with you so subscribe if you haven't already to share your thoughts, keep up to date with new images or just instant message our principal agent, Kit Killington.?
