Thinking About Using AI-Generated Content to Support Your SEO Strategy? Think Again!

You might recall our conversation from a few weeks back about AI-generated content. Well, today’s letter is a continuation of that chat. And since the landscape is evolving rapidly, let me just say this is accurate as of March 21, 2023–but I may have another update for you in a matter of weeks.
For a quick refresher, I recently used ChatGPT to write content on SEO packages for small businesses. After editing the copy and running it through Grammarly, I published it on BSM’s website.?
Now, the moment of truth: Did Google index it???
Nope.?
It looks like Google is ahead of the game regarding AI-generated content (and I think we all knew they would be). The search engine determined that a human had not written the copy. As it was merely respun content from existing information on the web, it didn’t meet Google’s “helpful content” standards. Consequently, the page was not indexed, so that it won’t appear in search results. You can learn more about this experiment by watching this video:
What does this mean for businesses? You shouldn’t use AI-generated content across your website or on your blog. I will say, however, that you can use it for copy that doesn’t have to rank. Examples include social media posts, newsletters, and anything with a short “shelf life.”
I hope you enjoyed learning about Google’s approach to indexing AI-generated content.?
Have a question about search engine optimization? I’m always eager to perform research and answer any SEO-related questions you may have.?
Cheers,
Chris

1 年BTW - According to this post that Google published on Feb. 8, 2023, their guidelines and rules are pretty clear when it comes to AI-generated content: "When it comes to automatically generated content, our guidance has been consistent for years. Using automation—including AI—to generate content with the primary purpose of manipulating ranking in search results is a?violation of our spam policies." Source: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/02/google-search-and-ai-content We recently published some customer success stories on our website: https://boulderseomarketing.com/seo-case-studies/ The results are remarkable and achieved by using professional writers and our Micro-SEO Strategy? methodology (and other SEO best practices). When it comes to SEO results, hard and smart work still pays off. Google's systems will detect AI-generated content, so it's not worth trying to game the system :)
