Thinking of switching to Office365?

When a business decides to make the journey from on-premise to Office365, the migration of legacy email archives are often at the back of the consideration queue.

Understandably so some might say but it can lead to a bigger problem. The bottom line is, Microsoft Office 365 does not specialise in data backup and recovery.

The onus is on you to sort this out. Microsoft’s policy is to retain data from deleted files or an inactive account for 30 days. After 30 days, the data is permanently removed.

“Suddenly, your organization may be out of compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.” J. Peter Bruzzese Columnist for InfoWorld

Fortunately, there are plenty of 3rd party vendor solutions which can help users to migrate archived emails from their on-premise home into the cloud.

Having decided on an Office365 strategy, it makes sense to use a cloud-only solution to achieve this.

Extensive research has recently been conducted by one of our vendor partners Mimecast under the whitepaper title “Osterman Research: The Importance Of Doing Email Migrations The Right Way”

·      Migration can be difficult and involves a significant number of detailed steps for the planning, execution and management of the overall project. Nearly one-half of those surveyed for this white paper view the need to keep everything up and running during the migration as the most challenging aspect of a migration.

·      On-premises archiving systems are being migrated to cloud-based solutions: our research shows that while slightly less than one-half of content is archived onpremises in 2019, this figure will jump to nearly two-thirds of archived content in just two years.
