Thinking about starting your own business?

Where do I begin? Well, the idea of starting your own business is great but at the same time terrifying. If you’re working at a cushy job making great salary would you just walk away and start from scratch? To give up that comfort, stability, healthcare etc. is not an easy thing to do, especially if you have a family. Actually, the hardest part of becoming an entrepreneur is walking away from what you currently are doing and putting yourself and in many cases your families’ well-being at risk (that’s the terrifying part.) 

On the other hand, you get to create something out of nothing and then watch it grow and become a great successful business. It sounds great in theory but the reality is much different. The average employee makes approximately $50k/year and an average entrepreneur makes $45k/year. What sense does that make? You barely get to see your friends and family, you get into debt, your personal life suffers and so on. Why would you want to put yourself through this?

That’s why only a single digit percentage of new businesses make it past a five-year mark! But those that do get through that time period have sort of figured out what works and what doesn’t then their odds of succeeding are much better. I can honestly say that during the first few years of trying to grow my businesses I’ve been literally sleeping every other night and that has lasted for a good year. The things that you never thought possible become possible. The work/life balance notion basically doesn’t exist….if you truly commit to growing your venture.

For a long time, you will be pushing and pushing and then eventually one day you’ll look back and see at what you’ve created and the lives that you’ve changed. At that point your organization will be successful enough that you will be able to pull back and start enjoying your life more. There is no magic pill to become a superstar overnight……YOU NEED TO PUT IN THE WORK!
