Thinking of selling your business – give Realistic Business Brokers a try!

Lockdown does give you a lot of time! I thought about the 12 years or so I’ve been involved in buying businesses and the 25+ in selling.... well “stuff”!

Then an email came in that asked “do you want to be a business broker”. In my experience most of the brokers I have spoken to do a terrible job for their clients which is why many businesses are unsold after spending a year or more with some of the biggest names in the industry. It got me thinking. 

First I looked up the ratings given to business brokers via TrustPilot. Although some positive comments there were a lot of VERY negative ones, usually around paying thousands up front, overselling the number of buyers the broker had “ready to buy” the business, and almost always exaggerating the amount the seller will get. 

Then I looked at this proposal from a well known, apparently franchisor, who wanted £20,000 to join and a monthly fee!

Hang on!  Can’t we set up our own business brokers with an ethos for win/win/win (for buyer, seller and us)?  The only way that can be achieved is by selling a business at a reasonable price to a ready buyer.

I’d like to introduce you to our new business, formed in a week (though the website will take longer). It does what it says on the tin as it is called “Realistic Business Brokers”. Some of the key features are:

·        Low initial fees (£hundreds rather than thousands)

·        These low fees can even be spread

·        The majority of the fees are based on the final selling price

·        And these fees are due as you are paid via the buyer, so if there is a spread (deferred) payment to the Seller the fees are due in line with those payments

·        No significant withdrawal fees

·        Buyers and Sellers are both briefed on how businesses are valued so price should not be an issue, hence a “realistic” asking price is offered

·        We don’t just do a nice “Information Memorandum”, we will advertise the business in relevant media AND hunt for Buyers who will be interested in the business you want to sell

·        We have partners in Finance so if you are a buyer and don’t have all the money you need we can help

·        We have partners in Legal affairs that have done extensive work in this sector so if you are a Seller and need some help to respond to a Purchase/Sale Agreement we have a London law firm who will act for you at a lower than expected price due to the volume of work we will expose them to
