Thinking Outside The Box In Service

March 23rd, 2015, I knew my life was going to change. I'm still young, strapping and full of vitality and energy with an unbelievable ability to see my world into existence. That was the day I joined Space Age Electronics and signed on the dotted line. And I thanked God for each opportunity that didn't work out. I thanked God for that ability to see my future into existence and I was so grateful for everything that was coming my way.

Last year, during our mid year meeting at Space Age, I watched one of my good friends get the very first Mallard Award. An award given to the leader of the Business Development Team at SAE for their efforts the previous year. Not necessarily the most in sales numbers, but in their investment into the industry and their willingness to be uncomfortable. As happy as I was for Mike Ventola when he won the award, I was also excited for the company because I had some things brewing that took a little time to grow and get to the point I knew they could. I saw the vision that our leadership placed before us. I knew, the Mallard was flying home with me in 2017. I could see it. I could feel it. I could smell it. I could taste it, I went home, put my head down and did what I did best, used my ability to think outside of the box and see my future into existence.

This last year was a tremendous year of growth for me. I got comfortable with being uncomfortable. I met so many new people and professionals in the life safety industry. I learned more than I ever had in my 20 year career. I did new thinkgs that I knew had the potential to change the world around me and the world of life safety. I became a Board Member for CAFAA and was renominated as Treasurer for SFPE in San Diego. Most of all, I served to the benefit of so many to make their world that much better. Doing it without expecting anything in return, but to know at night when laying my head down, that I helped someone make their life better that day and was grateful for the chance.

This year, I did bring the Mallard home with me. I did get the honor of being before my colleagues and friends and express my gratitude for them all. But more than that, I was reminded that none of this is possible without the selfless service of others who helped me get here. It is a great example of how we can all collectively lift one another up. to some, it may not be a big deal. For me, it solidifies everything I have done in my entire career. To think outside of the box and be a change agent in the world around me.

I hope one day I can serve you too.

Magpie!
