With so many Live Water Events being cancelled - including the 12,000 attendee American Water Works Association Annual Conference & Exposition (one of the two largest water events in North America!) - many in the Water Community are thinking about hosting their OWN Virtual Event.

As a Water Planning, Policy & Public Engagement Expert who has spent the last 10 years studying with the Masters of Online Education + Events - searching for ways to transfer the many Water Meetings required for policy, planning, and public projects - I can tell you that is it NOT EASY to get your online audience engaged, to educate in a way that includes your entire audience, and have every person who gets online feel welcome and wanted, intrigued and inspired to take action!

That's why I am so immensely grateful that - with our our WaterSummit Inaugural Event on Water+COVID19: Your Home+Health only 18 days away (May 14-15 - ACK!) - I get to spend 9 days learning about Food, Health and the Planet at this year's 9th Annual Food Revolution Summit from two of the best Virtual Event hosts online: John and Ocean Robbins.

As the nephew and son of Company Founders Baskin and Robbins, John Robbins was supposed to take over his family's Ice Cream Empire, but had discovered that there is a connection between our health and the food we eat (something we take for granted today). So instead, he moved to Canada, became a hippie, named his kid "Ocean" - and began researching the food-health connection and writing best-selling books such as "Diet For A New America."

Meanwhile, Ocean - while still a teenager, joined a fellow young environmentalist (Ryan Eliason) in creating a nonprofit called "Youth For Environmental Sanity (YES!)" - organizing summer camp "jams" which made the then-new Environmental Movement FUN for kids like them.

Nine years ago, John and Ocean took their passion for People and the Planet and turned it into one of the largest Public Education Programs Online - the Food Revolution Summit - which regularly brings together OVER 300,000 ATTENDEES A YEAR to hear from medical and environmental experts on the latest scientific research on how our food choices impact our health, our society and our planet - presented in an understandable and accessible format.

As Water Leaders are beginning to discover, getting online for interactive meetings, "virtual happy hours" and other events isn't all that bad, especially now that the Coronavirus has forced us to #STAYHOME and large gatherings are not an option. But there's a BIG DIFFERENCE between just hosting a zoom call and organizing a purposeful, results-oriented event that helps the Speakers to present their work in the best possible light, translates expertise into a format that attendees can understand, and provides attendees with clear, actionable TAKEAWAYS and a memorable EXPERIENCE.

If I can remember to incorporate just a fraction of the techniques John and Ocean use in their programs for our own Inaugural WaterSummit Event - to support my Speakers in developing their material, presenting it through high-energy engaging interviews, and getting the audience to join into the discussion and build a real sense of community ... wouldn't that be something?

I hope you'll join me in this year's 9th Annual Food Revolution Summit - which started yesterday with an Extra Day on "Safety, Health, and the Global Pandemic" - with three top MD researchers focusing on the impacts of the Coronavirus with the latest news on how COVID-19 impacts our bodies, who survives and who doesn't, how the disease started through human consumption of virus-carrying animals, and how our food choices can both help us avoid contracting this disease now AND prevent further outbreaks of similar diseases in the future.

Daniel Amen, Dean and Ayesha Sherzai, and David Perlmutter about the latest connections between FOOD AND THE BRAIN - including simple steps we can take with our food choices to reduce the risk of Alzheimers, which foods contribute to mood disorders and other mental illnesses, and otherwise take care of our brain, our mood, and our mind.
