Thinking About Hiring a Coach? Ask Yourself These 4 Questions

Everyone seems to have a coach these days, so you should have one too, right?

Not so fast.

To make sure you get the most out of your experience, ask yourself these 4 questions.

1.???What exactly do I hope will be different as a result of working with a coach??If you don’t know where you wish to go, how will you know when you get there? And, how will you determine if the person you’re about to hire will be the right person to help you get there?

Before searching for a coach, take time to reflect on what you’re hoping to achieve.

2.???Is there evidence that the person I’m considering as my coach has the expertise to help me??There are no barriers to coaching, which means anyone can call themselves a coach. There are also hundreds of coaching certification programs, which means just because someone is a “certified” coach, this doesn’t mean they’re excellent at what they do.?

If you’re looking for a coach, look for someone who has been where you want to go. It’s best if this person has a track record of successfully working with people who have similar challenges and goals as you.

3.???Am I ready to invest in myself??Coaching isn’t something that is done to you. It’s something you do for yourself. Are you prepared to invest the resources (both money and time), or are you simply playing with the idea of having a coach?

If you’re not ready to go all in, then don’t. If you’re prepared to do the work required and in the right mindset, then you’re in a great position to achieve terrific results with a coach.

4.???Am I ready to hear the truth??Not everyone is prepared to listen to the truth. Are you? A good coach isn’t going to beat around the bush. They are going to tell you exactly what they think. Are you ready to accept feedback and make the necessary changes to help you move forward?

If you’re unsure, best not to engage a coach. If you’re ready to finally unlock what’s been holding you back, hiring a coach is definitely worth further consideration.
