Are you thinking of going back to school? That's great. However, please don't think school is just for degrees.
1. School is for Relationship-building skills. That's the #1 way jobs are found, no matter how many beat-the-ATS articles you read.
Those strategic emails you sent to professors to understand the topic/get a better grade? Relationship-building.
Those office visits to professors for help with an assignment? Relationship-building.
That course participation you did so the professor would remember who you are? Relationship-building.
2. School is for Exposure. A lot of career opportunities exist that you'll only have access to via school.
Companies recruit at universities. They hold f2f and vitual career fairs. These are not open to the public, they're for the students.
Professional organizations (where job information is shared among members). Students who are involved with their major's professional organization get access to job/career/relationships that can help them long after school is over.
Whether you're 25 or 45, if you go back to school, the degree is fine. But, relationship-building and exposure are important parts of getting the career you want. Don't ignore those key aspects of school.
Degrees don't make you. YOU make you.??
