The Thinking Era

The Thinking Era

The world is changing at a fast pace, with technology acting as a super catalyst, giving little time to anticipate, prepare or react to the changes.

It is then a good time to assess how feasible is it to continue with our execution-obsessed approach. An execution-based approach works very well when the scope of work is defined and familiar.

However, when we see AI applications taking up analytical jobs with ease, or drones and robotics aiding nations with less manpower, it becomes clear that there is a need to experiment and think, be curious and inquisitive, simply because the unknown is growing at a fast pace.

Our past learning is of little use for new technologies such as quantum computing or 3D printing.

As companies work on powering the small chips with great computing power, we do not know how soon wearables will replace mobile phones.

As gene editing shows more promise with every experiment, we do not know how it will impact medical science and mortality.

It is not as if technologies are affecting only a few industries.

As the whole world is being redefined, with technology driving everything from self-driving cars to car-pooling services, food and entertainment binging, most things are just an app away.

We have entered the thinking era. The execution-oriented strategies will not work too well, for to execute something well, you first need to know the task at hand, and as technology keeps staying one step ahead of our conditioned professionals, it is time we gave original thinking its due and encouraged experimentation, discussions, and creativity.

Let's align ourselves as best as we can, to the Thinking Era.
