Thinking Differently this Lung Cancer Awareness Month

As we mark #lungcancerawarenessmonth this November, I’ve been reflecting upon how different this milestone looks than it did even 10 years ago. The progress we’ve seen, how far science has come – it’s at once inspiring and sobering, especially when we think about where we are going now.?
In recent years, the rapid acceleration of progress in #oncology is nowhere more evident than in lung cancer. Immuno-oncology therapies (IO) in particular have revolutionized the field, and we now have several classes and treatments available, many of which have become standard of care across different types of lung cancer.??
Despite these advances, #lungcancer remains the leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and even IO therapies only help about 30% of eligible patients. Most importantly, the challenge is much bigger than any one solution, or entity: more than half of people with the most common form aren’t diagnosed until it is too late - by the time they are metastatic, and at a stage where treatments can only do so much. As a community, we need to work together to find ways to facilitate earlier diagnosis, access to the therapies people need, and supportive care throughout the disease. As we’ve all acknowledged many times over, addressing a challenge like this requires a monumental effort from us all: academia, research, industry, advocacy, policymakers, and more.?

I’m proud of the way Gilead is acting on this, with research collaborations with partners such as 默克 and Arcus Biosciences , programs with advocacy groups from around the world including GO2 for Lung Cancer , LUNGevity Foundation , The White Ribbon Project, and many others who can have a real impact on our collective goals for change. It’s an honor to be a part of this journey.??
I look forward to seeing what comes next, and to learning more about what’s on the horizon for others on this path.?
