Recently we've had some new staff join our team and would love to share with you a bit about them!
Hetty Kirby
After spending a long time working for a global corporate, Hetty Kirby liked the idea of working for a locally owned and operated family business. So that’s what brought her to CMT Group.
For the past 16 years Hetty has been at Safe Air, who then merged with Airbus. She started off managing the front end on their ERP system, and then retrained and completed her Human Resources Degree via correspondence. This led her to the HR world where she has been in for the past five years.
Being a Mum of two tweens, Hetty spends most of her time working around them and their schedules. But when she does get a moment for herself, you will find her at the gym or up in the Wither Hills, walking and talking with friends.
She loves hill walks, beach walks – anything really that gets her outside, but tells us "If I’m stuck inside, I’ve always got two or three books on the go; or I’m catching up on streaming platform series (Netflix/Amazon/ Neon)." Welcome to the team Hetty.
Ford McArley
Ford McArley came to CMT Group as he wanted to relocate to pursue career opportunities. "Somewhere where I hadn’t lived before and within a well-established company was priority." Says Ford. He’s been with us for a few weeks now and says he “loves coming to work where it feels like a big family - CMT Group does that for me."
Most of his life he’s been in B2B sales and saw the opportunity with CMT Group and our new internal sales game “ Outbound Game ”, very attractive. He loves his new role of sales support and feels it's an awesome role to come into as he likes trying to find a solution to a problem. He says "It keeps me on my feet and busy!"

In his spare time Ford likes to spend time with his kids and supporting them in their sports and gaming. He enjoys taking his partner out for dinner and tells us they have a baby on the way which is going to take up a lot of their free time!
A hobby he enjoys is motor bike racing as a sport, fishing and just relaxing in the sun with a good whiskey. Welcome to the team Ford.
It's also very important we acknowledge staff that have committed to staying with us over the years. At CMT Group we like to reward long service every 5 years, another great reason to join the team. Here is a little bit about a key staff member, Terry Faulkner who has been with us for 10 years!
Terry Faulkner
Terry Faulkner is Projects Manager for CMT Group based in Blenheim, NZ. He also serves as one of our Quantity Surveyors on staff and has been involved in the building and construction industries for the last 30 years. He takes care of a lot of procurement processes, as well as managing small jobs from start to finish.
Terry began working for MC Construction (the ‘M’ in ‘CMT Group’) 10 years ago, So he’s a real piece of the furniture here. Since then, he’s made the role his own, most recently implementing the 喜利得 asset management system to keep all our tools tracked and traced.
Terry’s friendly, personable nature and approachable manner, makes it easy for him to coordinate subcontractors and take care of all deliveries on projects. He always knows what’s on the go and keeping projects up-to-speed is a big part of Terry’s work at CMT Group.
“The roles I help in are very busy, with a lot of computer work as well as communicating with suppliers and other stakeholders,” Terry says. “We’ve got good people working in strong teams within the company, they pride themselves in getting jobs done properly, neatly, on-time and on budget.”
Terry is very humble and has a unique way of bringing people together. After the first COVID19 lockdown, Terry stood up and shared some motivating words to all staff to help them get through the tough time, this is fondly known as “Terry’s poem”. We can all take some inspiration from his words - “Together we are stronger, of that I’ve no doubt. There’s no I in team, so there’s no need to spout. We’ve all got a job so be thankful for that, so be cheerful at work while you’re wearing your hard hat.”
Terry enjoys working in a family-based business with a good culture like CMT Group.
“We are multi-tasked with having both a civil side, as well as a construction side, which gives us a large amount of control on jobs and keeps more work and services ‘in-house’ for the benefit of our customers.”
Asked what he enjoys about his job Terry is quick to answer; “the comradeship, humour, and reasonable work hours make this a terrific position to be in, I have been proud to be involved in lots of iconic projects for CMT Group, including The local KFC Refurbishment, the Hydralada Rebuild, the Kaikoura Aquatic Centre and 14 houses for Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities too. I am looking forward to helping the company grow bigger and better as we launch into many more high-quality projects.”
If you've done business with us, chances are you have talked to Terry, he is across all construction projects.
If you have any other questions about what it's like to work at CMT Group, drop us a message and we can arrange a chat.
