Welcome to the latest edition in our newsletter series. We believe that every event has the power to make a positive impact - not just on your guests, but also on the community and the environment. Today, we strongly believe sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s a necessity.
Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, The Kingsmills Hotel offers a destination for those looking to create impactful, sustainable events that make a difference.
Sustainability at Kingsmills
The original Kingsmills House dates back to 1785; a building rich in history, culture and storytelling. Since returning to independent ownership in 2007, the Kingsmills has undergone a loving restoration, with a vision for a sustainable future woven into the fabric of the building
When you choose Kingsmills for your next event, you can be confident that you are partnering with a venue that puts sustainability front and centre. Accredited Gold by Green Tourism for our thorough 'Treading Lightly' policy, the team have embedded processes to minimise impact; from reducing waste to using energy-efficient systems. And, we’re constantly evolving our practices to ensure that we minimise our environmental impact.
"Sustainability isn’t just something that we believe is the right thing to do. It has become a leading influence at the core of our company ethos. We strive to showcase the new age of what luxury can be. An unforgettable experience without over-consumption and negatively affecting our planet"
Environment?
The Scottish countryside is a constant source of inspiration and protecting the habitats on our doorstep and further afield is exceptionally important to us. Reducing our carbon emissions through a number of initiatives, sourcing cleaner energy and reducing consumption and waste are key areas that we measure and report on.
Fresh Ideas
Looking for some blue-sky thinking or needing some fresh ideas? The Kingsmills Gardens are the perfect outdoor break-out space or venue for your upcoming event. A short wander through the gardens, passing the flower beds of nepeta, roses and evergreens are the most vibrant of gardens.
Sheltered patio terraces, bordered by floral displays will enable your event to flow out from our Kingsmills Suite and into the fresh Highland air. Our stretch tent can be assembled for larger scale events, offering an al-fresco dining venue that soaks up the summer sun.
Food and Drink
Our menus are created with seasonality and locality in mind – ingredient driven in many ways. We feel it is essential to understand the history and journey of our food sources and invest time in build connections with our local suppliers.
We work closely with farmers, fishermen, and other suppliers to source the freshest and highest quality ingredients for our restaurant. Cheese from the local dairy, seafood freshly landed on the morning of your event and Venison from the Cairngorms: we make the most of our local larder, supporting the community and reducing food miles.
For the Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards 2024, we worked with the event organisers to produce an unprecedented, plant based menu for one of the largest-scale events in the Highlands. Here is our Executive Chef Geoff introducing the concept;
Destination
The Scottish Highlands offer an inspiring setting where nature and innovation blend. Surrounded by wind farms harnessing the power of the Highlands’ untamed landscapes, alongside ambitious pumped hydro and rewilding schemes, this region is a beacon of sustainable progress.
The area has also recently welcomed the new Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport which brings fresh energy and investment; the Highlands fast becoming a symbol of renewal and forward-thinking.
For large events focused on sustainability, there’s no better place to inspire guests than in this stunning landscape, where every element speaks to a future built on environmental care.
Community
At Kingsmills, we are deeply rooted in our local community, and giving back is an integral part of our operations; key to engaging the local community, maintaining support for our business and further spreading the message of sustainable tourism.
We are also dedicated to supporting charity causes spanning from hosting annual golf days to entertainment fundraisers in collaboration with our chosen charity partners. To date, the Kingsmills team have raised nearly £700,000 for our main three charity partners! And, we’re not stopping there!
We have even more showstopping charity events planned before the end of the year; including a golf day in aid of erosion repairs at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club and the we have relaunched the largest charity event of the year; The Sunflower Ball in aid of the Highland Hospice .
In addition to fundraising, our team donate time to community causes - including volunteering as mentors with charity MCR Pathways and running regular litter picks in the local area.?
