Think Safe, Be Safe, Stay Safe: Start a “Safe Cabs” Program
One of the biggest issues in the service of alcohol is safe transportation to the guest’s home when possibly impaired patrons and before tired employees leaves an alcohol serving establishment. Some Minnesota community have seen drastic reductions in the number of DUI’S in their county due to SAFE CABS. Patrons can be educated about making safer ways to get home before they start to drink. The premise of SAFE CABS is to transport guests directly to their homes from an alcohol serving establishment. The bartender or management will contact the participating cab companies to provide transportation at no cost to the guest. SAFE CABS is the brainchild of Isanti County Judge James Dehn, and others like Robert Pomplun a nationally recognized expert with Dehn has helped in the promotion of safe communities and the reduction of drunken driving. DUI arrests have decreased seventy percent in Isanti County! The program has helped other counties in our state in Minnesota counties have seen the great reductions in DUI’s. The Century Council presented Judge Dehn with the Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety. The Safe Cab had some funding from the Century Council as a national non-profit organization funded by distillers and dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Alcohol vendors are trying to reduce drunk driving accidents. Judge Dehn has created a passion for community safety with many owners of alcohol serving businesses.? The SAFE CAB program may be developed in other states with rural counties. ?Judge Dehn has put together a coalition of caring people to achieve these goals. Robert Pomplun of ServingAlcohol.com has worked with Judge Dean over the last fifteen years. He brings his 40 plus years of expertise in the areas of alcohol server training and reducing risk reduction opportunities to alcohol serving businesses. Prevention groups working directly with the cab companies and alcohol serving community to develop this prevention program for a safer community. Insurance companies, alcohol distributors, and safety groups may be proactive partners when promoting and funding this project. Preventive partners and help to develop future guests to become safe thinkers, providing tools to educate them about protecting their communities’ and responsibility to be safe. Patrons have to develop skills to communicate with the community to be safe. Patrons must plan ahead before consuming alcohol. Think before you drink! Guest education and awareness of this community supported safety program helps to produce safer alcohol serving environments. Some customer safety tips for your establishment include: All guests entering alcohol serving premises must show a valid identification. Post a sign as to what are the valid ID’s they need to gain entry. Problematic people do not have valid ID’s and the tagging system keeps track of these people so you can maintain a safer environment by monitoring their entrance. Guests will not patronize a place where they do not feel safe. This in turn will earn you more safe profits and create safer community. Training your employees on ways to find possible detection of Fake China ID’s. It is a felony under federal law to be in possession of China Fakes. Alcohol licensing departments need to develop a public safety partnership with vendors, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies to create safer alcohol serving environments.
