Think. Plan. Do. Make Bold Steps towards your Growth in three minutes or less

Fearless Entrepreneur & Leader. JULIA LECKEY’S BLOG

by Julia Leckey . 8th August 2024

Welcome to the bi-weekly edition of Think, Plan, Do. I'll guide you through my process of launching two businesses in 2024, sharing insights on being a fearless leader and entrepreneur, and how you can grow boldly in your life. Even if you're not starting a business, this will help you achieve your goals and develop a fearless mindset.

Why Does a Fearless Mindset Matter??

It fosters curiosity, creativity, innovation, resilience, and risk-taking—essential for driving growth and creating impactful change. Growth is where learning happens.

Yay.

Work on what you love and make a difference.

Contribute positively to our world.

Let's go!

1/ THINK ??

Will you choose Dead Time or Alive Time?

A few times in life, I have felt really stuck. For example, when I made business decisions that were not working out or when I was going through various health issues. All have made me think about what I have learned through all these stuck times.

Frustration and fear can rule your days. It’s like learned helplessness. What can I do? What is the point? I just have to sit here, waiting for the problems to pass, the contract to end, the job to get better, or the infection to retreat.

One of the things that helped me was a book by the author Robert Greene. In his books, he talks about two types of time: Dead Time and Alive Time. One is where you sit around, waiting for things to happen to you. The other is when you are in control, making every second count, learning, growing, and improving. This makes you fearless and helps you take back control. Trust me, it works!

Robert writes, "The worst thing in life is to have a job that you hate, that you have no energy for, that you’re not creative with, and where you’re not thinking of the future. To me, you might as well be dead."

This doesn’t mean you should quit your job if you don’t love it. You can still greatly grow during these times and influence your life and be alive by researching, learning, studying, and observing. Robert Greene writes about these ideas in his amazing books: 48 Laws of Power , The Art of Seduction , Mastery , and The Laws of Human Nature.

A great Video by Robert Greene (worth a watch)

Love his Mastery book, so worth a read!

Years ago, I decided to make the most of every moment I was stuck. I couldn’t control what was going on, but I could choose how I spent my days. I decided to make the rest of my life a kind of work-study programme. I was going to grow and learn everything I could about people, myself, health, business, and life. I filled every non-working second with productive reading and research. Life is constantly asking us: Is this going to be Alive Time or Dead Time?

A long tube ride—are we going to zone out or listen to a great audiobook?

A job we hate—is this tying us down or freeing up headspace to study, learn, grow, and move forward?

A long wait at the airport—we can walk around for miles and learn or sit in frustration and wait.

A stay in hospital - I can read a great book or write this blog!

It’s a mindset shift, and it’s your call.

As they say, this moment is not your life. But it is a moment in your life. How will you use it?

To really grow, we need to make every moment a moment of Alive Time.

We have to decide to be present, to make the most of whatever is in front of us. Open your mind and ignite your curiosity.

Bringing it back to my two businesses:

In Thinking Fearlessly , my coaching business, I help people not feel stuck because I learned how not to feel stuck or ever suffer Dead Time. It feels amazing when you're growing and living Alive Time regardless of where you are!

At Land of Colourful Creatures , every day is learning and growing. What’s the worst that can happen?

I’m alive, learning, and doing.

Yay!

Make time for Thinking ??

2/ PLAN ??

I love a Plan.

I believe nothing has weight unless it’s written down. Lessons learned from my first two businesses have made me crystal clear on the importance of this.

Write a plan down, on an A4 sheet of paper or a beermat.?The Beer Mat Entrepreneur ?I read 20-22 years ago kicked off my first business and it’s so worth a read.

One of the best little Entrepreneur books to read.

So, for the last two weeks, I’ve been focusing on a plan — my newsletter/blog plan.

I knew what I wanted to achieve: To inspire people to be Fearless Entrepreneurs & Leaders around a new model, so here's the TPD Framework. But is TPD a blog or a newsletter?

Hence the need for a plan and some exploration…

I also need a plan because I wanted to create a framework to make the next hundreds of blogs/newsletters easier to produce (always build frameworks :). I was thrilled and slightly nervous to see that 450 of you have subscribed since last week. Thank you! I want to ensure it adds value to the 3 minutes of your day it takes to read it.

So, learning from the best examples can help, and then I can add my own dynamic. I researched many, but these stood out as brilliant newsletter/blog frameworks, check out their blogs….

1/ David hieatt – 3 wins, yeah love .

2/ Gary Vaynerchuk – Serial Entrepreneur & Blogger.

3/ Ryan Holiday – Writer, Author, media strategist.

Yeah, I love a PLAN ??

3/ DO ??

There is no point in Thinking and Planning without Doing.....

Countless people tell me they have an idea for a book but have never written one. Why not? Fear holds people back! But what have you got to lose? It’s so easy these days to self-publish, and writing a book helps you consolidate your thinking, planning, and doing (try it).

So, in the spirit of doing, I’ve accomplished three BIG things in the last week that are fun, family-oriented, and foundation-building!

  1. Fun Event: Soho House Dean Street on the 20th of September from 9 am to 11 am. I’m doing a breakfast talk and workshop on Becoming a “Fearless Entrepreneur.” Please come along! (See the Soho House App or DM me. The first 2 people get a free place and breakfast )
  2. Foundation:?We have booked our launch for Land of Colourful Creatures at the Interiors show?Maison & Objet ?in Paris. Please sign up to be part of our creative community (see invite below and sign up for a catalogue and to join our creative community).

This was important for a number of reasons:

  • Validation:?Over 80,000 visitors, including 44,000 international attendees
  • Inspiration:?3,000 brands at Maison & Objet
  • Momentum:?Displaying our new Creative Community idea, Powerful stories, and Wallpaper Art & getting orders
  • Positioning:?We are a British Luxury Brand with a French Twist, so why not start in Paris…

Maison & Objet 16th - 20th January 2025 LOCC Launch.

Love Marie-Julie Trijasson energy, creativity, and magic, and even though it's been a tough health week for me, her magic has made me daily smile and sit back in wonder - our invite above, please pop it in your diary!

3. Family: We have booked a last-minute trip to Paris for our family to bask in the energy of the Olympics and to spend time with my 13-year-old comedic son and Eddy (husband). Can’t wait to spend quality time with the boys.

What one thing can you....

THINK??.

PLAN ??.

DO ??

.......this week to power your boat?
