Think Organized: Keep Letting Stuff Go

Think Organized: Keep Letting Stuff Go

Set your things free!

Professional Organizer and industry pioneer Judith Kolberg wrote “Conquering Chronic Disorganization” where she suggests asking yourself if an item needs you. Is it fair to the object to be kept in a box and never looked at when it could be providing joy to someone on a daily basis?

Donating your things can benefit the world in a number of ways – providing for those in need, generating funds for community programs, supporting creativity, and just keeping things out of landfills.

Instead of putting items in anonymous metal bins in the parking lots of a thrift store, I prefer to donate to clothing closets that distribute items at no cost to those in need. It makes me feel better about donating items. Find places that you feel good about donating to! (There is a big list downloadable at www.Think-Organized.com. Let me know if you have additions!)

  • It is wonderful to gift things if you can still move them out of your space in a timely manner. If it will be one more item on an already long to-do list, then donate it.
  • Many people want to sell things. When considering if you should sell items think about the amount of time it will take you and how much money you will actually make. Personally, I am more fulfilled knowing that someone in need now has something nice than receiving 25% of an item’s value.

by the way Christine Daves, I love that you named your service as "Think Organized". I often wondered about the relationship between physical and thought clutter https://bit.ly/2V2pZut

as someone who struggles with chronic disorganization, thinking of the benefit that other people will reap from the stuff I give away is one of the most effective techniques.
