Think Mobile First: "Scroll the City"

The entire world is in the palm of your hand. Think about it: your work email, your friends’ Instagram posts, updates from your doctor, your news – it comes to you instantly on your smartphone.
· Have a question? Google it.
· Need a dinner reservation? Opentable.
· Checking out Saturday college football scores? ESPN mobile app.
We stay in constant communication with the small device that we can’t let go of. I recently paid an electric bill while riding on a train and watching the new Dave Chappelle Netflix special (he’s still got it by the way!). What used to be a simple communication device is now your key to the entire world and everything it has to offer.
So how much are we really on our phones each day? Each week? Dare I say, each year?
The team at Adfero decided to dive in and analyze how much we’re scrolling on our phones as part of our normal day: morning newsletters, “reply all” work emails, the never-ending social news feeds.
· Are you signed up for @Politico and @Axios morning newsletters?
· Do you monitor multiple Twitter feeds throughout the day?
· Checking in with your friends and family throughout the week?
Your weekly smart phone scrolling could be the equivalent of climbing the Washington Monument seven times over with your thumb.
At Adfero, we make our living in strategic communications, a constantly changing industry that must adapt to the latest technology and media consumption habits. With the average attention span of an engaged media consumer being less than that of a goldfish, we push our clients to think “mobile first” with their internal and external communications approaches. There is a lot of competition for your attention on that phone screen.
We think mobile first as a part of our daily habits.
Take a few minutes and “scroll the city” on our interactive site to see how far you could travel around Washington, D.C.
