More employers are open to remote work for many positions, after being forced into remote work for the past 2 years. Some have even adopted a fully remote model or leave it up to the employee.
So it appears, on the surface, that it should be easy to land a remote job now.
On closer look, the numbers should make you realize it's not as easy as you think, because in addition to record number of employers are offering remote jobs, far more are looking for WFH positions, exploding your competition levels.
Based on recent studies, about 1/3 of US employers plan on offering remote jobs for most of their openings, which is huge compared to pre-Covid. The challenge is that 2/3 of US candidates want to work from home, plus 90M-110M+ candidates are competing for 11M jobs, and you compete with worldwide workers for remote positions.
Also, there's political pressure, especially in large cities, for employers to return to an in-office model, as local governments fear reduced office occupancy lowering commercial property values and downtown retail business.
Fortunately, there's an answer to higher competition levels - doing more than your competitors.
