"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Lao Tzu:

Dear Friends & Investors,
?
Welcome to this edition of the SundayReads.
?
As a personal finance advisor, I've encountered countless strategies and philosophies, but one that stands out is Matt Griswold's "Think in decades, act in days." This profound idea extends beyond financial management, influencing personal growth, relationships, and life choices. Let me share ?how this philosophy can bring about transformative changes in both our financial and personal lives.
?
The essence of this philosophy lies in its combination of long-term vision and daily actions. In the realm of personal finance, it translates to a focus on long-term wealth creation and the magic of compounding. Similarly, in life, it's about recognizing the importance of each day’s small steps towards a larger goal. This fosters patience, resilience, and the significance of consistent effort. Let me share a few stories with you.
?
One of my clients, a woman who found herself widowed in 2000 while pregnant, embodies this philosophy. Faced with sudden adversity, she took up a clerical job to support herself and her unborn child. Upon the birth of her daughter, she started a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) with just Rs. 1,000 per month. With each passing year, as her daughter grew, she increased her SIP amount by Rs. 1,000, symbolizing her growing aspirations for her daughter's future. Today, after 23 years, her monthly contribution stands at Rs. 23,000, and her investment has blossomed into an impressive Rs. 1.48 crores. More than the financial achievement, it's her emotional journey of hope, resilience, and unwavering commitment that truly resonates. “Think in decades and act in days.”
?
Another story close to my heart is that of my colleague Ketan, who faced a significant ?challenge and had restricted use of his left hand. Despite his condition, he decided to pursue his long-held passion for photography. Each day, amidst the physical and emotional trials, Ketan dedicated time to learn and practice photography. His journey was slow, often marked by frustration and setbacks, but his commitment never wavered. Over the years, he not only mastered the art of photography but also found in it a therapeutic escape from his struggles. He runs online classes now and has his hands full! His story is a powerful example of how consistent, daily efforts, guided by a long-term vision, can lead to personal triumph and emotional healing. “Think in decades and act in days.”

This philosophy's application extends to everyday life choices and retirement planning. Learning an art like my 74 year-old mother is doing, a sport ; running marathons which my friend at her age 0f 50 took up, or developing a reading habit are not just pastimes; they are investments in our emotional and mental well-being. A book can be a lifelong companion, offering solace and wisdom. Music, either through singing or playing an instrument, serves as a therapeutic balm, enriching our lives with harmony and joy. As we plan for retirement, nurturing these interests becomes even more critical. They ensure we remain connected, engaged, and fulfilled in our later years. It's a reminder that it's never too late to start a new journey. Whether it’s picking up a book, learning to play a musical instrument, or engaging in a sport, these activities are more than hobbies; they are vital components of a well-rounded, fulfilling life. “Think in decades, act in days.”

The 'decades and days' philosophy is not just about financial prudence; it's a blueprint for living a balanced and fulfilling life. It teaches us the importance of patience, resilience, and the power of daily actions in achieving our long-term goals. Whether in building a secure financial future, nurturing relationships, or embarking on personal growth, this approach emphasizes the significance of a long-term vision and the impact of our daily choices. As we navigate through life, let's embrace this philosophy, finding strength in our daily actions and joy in our long-term aspirations. And As James Clear ?says, just make that 1% growth everday.

1 年The read is simple and reminds me of the culture that embodies a lot of western startups and corporate. Individuals and constitution are ready to focus on what’s the right vision and customer needs and takes steps like sacrificing the short term gains towards it. Thanks for sharing.
