1.The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday rejected a petition by Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party challenging former premier Yusuf Raza Gilani's upset win in the Senate elections, ruling that it was not appropriate to "unnecessarily drag" the judiciary in political matters. Gilani, who contested the Senate election as a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate, defeated ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh by secured 169 votes against 164 votes by Shaikh on Wednesday, giving a major blow to Prime Minister Imran Khan who had personally campaigned for his Cabinet colleague.

2. The Opposition had demanded the prime minister's resignation after the debacle following which Khan decided to take a vote of confidence on Saturday which he won comfortably. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard a plea by PTI lawmaker Ali Nawaz who alleged that Gilani, 68, was elected through vote-buying. IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah after hearing initial arguments directed the petitioner to use the platform of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) where the case is already under hearing. The court ruled that "it is not appropriate to unnecessarily drag the judiciary in political matters" and subsequently dismissed the plea.

3. Pakistan's Opposition parties on Monday nominated Gilani as their joint candidate for the Senate chairman election scheduled for later this week. The selection of Gilani as a nominee for the post came as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday refused to take action on the allegations of vote-buying in the recent Senate elections just on the basis of video clips unless those involved in offering and getting bribes were named. The petition was filed in the ECP on Friday on behalf of advocate Azhar Siddiq, stating that Gilani's victory in the Senate polls should be declared null and void as the elections were not transparent. The government's allegations were based on a video of Gilani's son Ali Haider talking with some PTI members and telling them how a vote can be "spoiled".

4. The PTI, in its petition, said that since seven votes were "spoiled" in the Senate elections and its candidate lost by just five votes, it showed that the PTI lawmakers in the video were bribed. Refusing to take action on allegations of vote-buying in the polls just on the basis of video clips, the ECP urged the government's lawyer to make all persons involved in the video scandal a party to the case and said that if the charges of giving and receiving bribes are proven, then action should be taken against all the culprits.

5, The IHC on Wednesday also rejected a plea to disqualify the former premier's son who is a provincial lawmaker. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Khan has alleged that senators belonging to the ruling PTI were being offered money to vote for Gilani."The Opposition used the money to win the Islamabad seat," he told party spokesperson while referring to Shaikh's loss to Gilani.  6. Elite Scholars, Patriot, Media, General Public mostly raise eye brows over the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of holding a bias against the PM. The PTI leadership thinks that Chief Election Commissioner did not respond to holding a short meeting with the PTI representatives &seems reluctant to get information/evidence of irregularities from Int Agencies. He did not even try to pacify PM of Pakistan who is the head of Govt. &Parliament,” He said in a press release what could have been conveyed verbally in a polite manner. 7 .In all media talks held to respond to Chief EC press release, ECP did not respond? The ECP have not attended to requests and complaints on voting held in Daska in a fair manner. It is more than evident that the Nation won’t be influenced or pressurized by the tactics being adopted by the Chief Election Commissioner or his team. Consequently the PTI on Saturday filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), asking it not to issue the notification about former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s victory on a general seat from Islamabad in the recently held Senate elections. This would be asking for scanty justice or "GOGLU SE MATTI JHARNA"

8 .The petition has been filed on the basis of a leaked audio clip of Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah purportedly bargaining with four PTI lawmakers for their votes in the Senate elections and a video of Mr. Gilani’s son Ali Haider Gilani in which he is allegedly showing some PTI MNAs techniques to waste their votes. The issuance of the notification should be stopped till action on the video scandal is completed, the petition filed by PTI lawmakers Farrukh Habib, Maleeka Bokhari and Kanwal Shauzab says. Moreso “Ali Haider Gilani kept bribing members of the National Assembly,” claim the petitioners. They have also alleged that Maryam Nawaz, in her speeches, made promises of giving lawmakers a PML-N ticket in the next general elections if they vote for Gilani.The lawmakers have also filed a petition seeking Ali Haider Gilani’s disqualification from the Punjab Assembly.

9 .On Wednesday, the opposition’s joint candidate former prime minister Gilani defeated the government’s candidate, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, in the Senate elections for the general seat from Islamabad. A day before the Senate election, a video and audio clip had surfaced which the PTI claims provides evidence of vote-buying by the opposition to secure the former prime minister’s victory. In the video that surfaced on social media, Ali Haider Gilani is allegedly instructing PTI MPs on how to waste their votes. Ali Haider Gilani admitted to his conversation with the PTI lawmakers, but said he was just responding to their question as to what to do if the votes are made traceable by a barcode. He, however, said he had made no attempt to ‘buy’ votes.

10 .Yousuf Raza Gilani also defended his son, saying that they were seeking votes from all MNAs as they formed the Electoral College for the Senate elections. He said he had also contacted Prime Minister Imran Khan in this connection. The ECP isl taking up hearing on March 9 — 3 days before the election for the coveted office of Senate chairman — a petition seeking Mr Gilani’s disqualification. Mr Gilani has been nominated as the PDM candidate for the slot against sitting Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who is being fielded by the PTI.

11 .Meanwhile, newly elected senator and former prime minister Gilani on Saturday met MQM-P convener and MNA Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to seek support for PDM candidates in the elections for Senate chairman and deputy chairman. MQM-P is part of the federal coalition government and had earlier turned down the PDM’s request not to vote for finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in Senate polls. The party also gave a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday. Speaking on the floor of the house, the MQM-P convener congratulated Mr Khan and said they reposed their confidence in him on time and now he should give confidence to the nation.
