Think Before You Share…What is It That Links All of Today’s High Tech?

Remember the Industrial Revolution? It came right after the Agricultural Revolution. Well...maybe not right after, as the Agricultural Revolution actually started about 12,000 years ago.

And when I say remember, dear reader, I wasn’t suggesting that you were old or ancient (not even myself); rather, we all learned this stuff in school.?

As you know, I’m a huge believer in never reinventing the wheel but instead studying and learning to re-apply thinking and processes that once worked and changed the world to problems and issues that face us today.

Frankly, I’m always amazed and sadly a bit depressed when I read (and always share) yet another “first time ever in the history of humanity” solution when I know it's actually as old as the hills—just clothed anew and sometimes not as well.?

Back to the Revolutions.?

Let’s look at Agriculture:

  • Small, nomadic bands of hunter-gatherers transitioned to larger agricultural settlements, and “civilization” was born (as in towns and then cities), which led to Industrial needs and revolution.?
  • There was now enough food to pursue other interests…like the Industrial Revolution and TikTok
  • Crop rotations, enclosures, infrastructure…early High Tech

Followed by Industrial:

  • There was an increase in?wealth, production of goods, and standard of living
  • Machines took the place of handwork
  • Power (steam first) took the place of sweat—human and other?
  • Leads to Tesla

Now in the middle was also a Scientific Revolution:

  • Abstract reasoning
  • An understanding of how nature works?
  • The focus was on the experimental scientific method

Stay with me!!

Then, of course, comes the Technology Revolution. To humble us a bit, I want to point out that the Neolithic Revolution actually counts here as being a double count as their technology was pretty audacious for its time. Think about that next time you pick up your smartphone.

And then there’s the Digital Revolution... (which is really an evolution—never mind, I’ve written about that before); contemplate Gutenberg and movable type, then let’s talk!

OK…so other than a review of High School history, where is this going?

A Sable-straight-line, as my readers know, everything (most? Be generous) leads to a point.?

You see…I was inspired by an article I posted last week about a lawyer who got called out for using Chat-AI to prepare a brief—not because it was forbidden—but because it was all wrong. The AI made up all the case references and citations causing the judge to get mighty pissed off—to say the least. If you haven’t read about it, you can do so here.

And it occurred to me that we had lost the plot.?

All the other revolutions:

  • Created wealth
  • Created new jobs
  • Advanced the quality of life
  • Developed new products and services

Nothing new here. But imagine Henry Ford putting out an unfinished V1.0 of the Model-T that crashed until he provided you with updates, or one of our early tool-making ancestors pointing to his new endeavor of cave painting and grunting technology—high-tech at that…

Nope. They all got on with it.?

Ford was tech (and is today, too), and yet Twitter is considered more High Tech than them. Kind of absurd, no?

Then I got to thinking...what connects all the so-called High Tech of today??

Much like it did thousands of years ago. Despite it all, it’s still about us—you and me—humans. We make it work or not work. We create its uses, proliferations, and the good and bad.

This all led me to realize that #THINKBEFOREYOUSHARE is an admonition that works across Social Media, AI, and, in fact, most of the so-called Digital High Tech of today. The human factor is what makes it work or not…be used for good or not…make a real difference or not.

So 12K+ years after the Agricultural Revolution began…the human dynamic is still the same.

As one of our forbearers said to their children when handing them this new thing called a knife—Think Before You Share.

And there you have it! #thinkbeforeyoushare

What’s your view?

Dear David Sable, I love the call for accountability. Once again it is a crucial message you stick to. I admire and salute your dedication to this vital message. Having said that, I actually recently pondered about that same issue. Is that call in the field of entrepreneurship fully applicable? Can we ask innovators to stick to the doctor's oath: "Do no harm"? Hmmm... I'll try to give an example: Out of a little over 600 people that have traveled to "space" I believe almost 20 have died. Safe space travel isn't there yet. Does it mean we should stop developing it? In fact, how many people have died because driving isn't really safe yet either? True that fascinating article you have shared was a great example of the harm of misuse of generative AI. We must learn from it! But how much value have we already received from it? How much more is coming soon? A necessary stage of innovation is testing it out. And regretfully there's fallout. But wouldn't there be worse fallout if we stopped innovation altogether by trying to avoid it?

Moreover, many high-tech technologies are converging and influencing one another. It's important to note that the common thread connecting high-tech technology is constantly evolving as new advancements emerge. The world of technology is ever-changing, with researchers, engineers, and innovators continuously pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers.

I like you sir! Sooo smart!!! Wish I was taken serious by anybody. I would venture to say, being a semi homeless family, needing our own place, the thread for me speaks like walking a tight rope, ya know. And I thank God each day to be alive. Yet I feel honored you responded. How can I answer you fully, as a person full of great wonder ideas, a dreamer,an inventor, a Healthcare mom of one, and nowhere to shine, no where to express, kind sir, as a Renaissance woman, how am I supposed to help make a change, when the city of killeen, Texas, will interview me for a job, yet could care less to lend a helping hand to house me n my asd teen? And believe me. I pray my old man remembers me in his will, so I can make a good change! For all our special needs! For starters.
