Human cells become hosts of the coronavirus. In the course of this, human lifestyles, economic exchange processes and political structures became the actual media for communicating the virus. The virus maintains itself only through its carrier, without which it cannot exist.

Against the background of its biological functioning, the cultural and social role of the coronavirus is now clear. It nests in a carrier, namely the people who have been reshaping the planet for some time. This transformation of the planet by humans is now called the Anthropocene.

Due to the rapid multiplication of the virus and its transmission, structures and deficits of this anthropocene world are illuminated and put to the test as if under a burning glass.

A fundamental problem of many of these anthropocene processes is that they cannot be experienced directly and therefore no strategies have been developed to deal with them. This has a lot to do with the scaling effects.

The anthropocene world is a world in which there is no outside except space. Since human knowledge and technology transform the planet as a whole, we as actors are always part of the action.

In addition, the original spreaders of the pandemic are actors in the globalized world, people who cross borders and continents for economic or tourist reasons. The pandemic also affects many people in the global south who do not benefit from these processes, but are exposed to them.

The challenges of the anthropocene world have their roots in the developmental history of western modernism. For a long time, the promise of Western modernism was to guarantee everyone's freedom and autonomy. However, this promise of autonomy was bought by declaring nature to be an exploitable resource. For centuries, the prerequisite for this was that many non-western societies were excluded from the accumulation of wealth by not attributing it to civilization but to the nature to be exploited.

In the second half of the 20th century, consumer societies developed in which the original promise of freedom of the modern age was increasingly interpreted as a right to unlimited consumption: the opportunity for everyone to buy all conceivable products in every season and travel everywhere, became a fundamental driving force of the Great Acceleration and thus the Anthropocene. The logic of consumer society looted the planet's resources and brought it to the brink of collapse.

It must be about developing practices and ways of thinking, indeed a new alphabet of living and living together, which the individual does not understand as isolated monads, but sees them as embedded in a complex world of relationships.

A new spatial policy is also necessary to develop these practices: small, decentralized local and regional units are needed that represent a common area of experience for all actors. On this basis, it is important to design micro-economies and policies.

These economic and political structures would then be based on a logic of relations and not on a logic of scaling, which is only a matter of the largest possible number of items, of ever greater profit - with planetary consequences. In relation logic, equivalent units, each pursuing local strategies, enter into an exchange with one another.
