The Things You Have

Welcome back to another Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive blog. I hope you’re doing well out there as we get ready for the weekend and all the things that will come with it. For me, it’s going to be a quiet one spent with my wife, kids, and of course.... some of those perfectly chilled ice cold Coors cans I have in my fridge.
Now if you’re in a leadership position, then chances are it’s easy for the weeks to blend into the weekend. You know the ones I’m talking about. You’ve got a ton of stuff on your plate during the week and then by the time the weekend finally rolls around you wind up using some of that weekend time to work and play catchup.
Then before you know it Monday rolls around again and you’ve got to start the whole thing all over again.
Trust me when I say it isn’t sustainable. Sure we have all had to take time on the weekend to wrap things up or get the ball rolling for something on the week coming up - but working seven days a week over and over again isn’t how you want to be doing things.
I’m always reminded of that during times like these, when my weekend ahead is going to be filled spending time with my wife & kids. I really cherish these times and enjoy everything we have planned like I think most parents do.?
I saw a recent picture on Instagram that talked about the importance of never letting the things you WANT get in the way of appreciating the things you HAVE.?

All of us out there in leadership positions in the business world have goals and things we want to work towards. Many of you are probably incredibly motivated and driven like I am, and because of that it’s easy to be solely focused on those goals.?
What you want to be careful of, is allowing those goals and all that motivation to get in the way of the quality time with friends and family that’s oh so important.?
Trust me when I say, without the people that are important to you, none of that other stuff has much meaning.
So whatever your plans are this weekend, if you’re going to be spending some time with friends or family that are important to you, remember that you don’t want to let all those big goals we have set get in the way of quality time with those who truly matter.
Optimize your week so that you’re able to clear your plate off by the time Friday afternoon rolls around, and allow yourself the experience of being fully present for during the weekend.
Give that some thought and have a great rest of the week.
