Things To Think About
“Some mornings it just doesn’t seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.”?Emo Phillips
Many years ago I was speaking to a group and I was discussing the difference between optimism and delusional optimism. At the risk of over-simplifying it, it’s difference between accepting reality and charting a course to a better place, and just smiling at everything bad that happens and say something like, “Hey, it could have been worse,” and just leave it at that. The difference in leadership is that people will believe the former, and never trust the latter because they are simply denying reality and have no idea how to deal with the issue. At the other end of the spectrum is the delusional pessimist, which this quote captures so well. It’s the kind of humorous quote that brings a smile when one experiences a little turbulence in life.
