Things to know about fiscalization in Hungary
General overview through history
Hungary implemented fiscalization in 1999 when this country first introduced a fiscal system as a method of control and monitoring of tax collection by the Hungarian tax authority. Later on, the Hungarian Government implemented the Online Cash Register System legislation in 2014, starting with the retail and hospitality sectors. In 2016, this legislation extended to the service sector as well. It is introduced as an advanced system, where sales data are transmitted in real-time to the Hungarian Tax and Customs Office.
Specific requirements of the Hungarian fiscal system
Fiscal regulation in Hungary is conceptualized on fiscal device usage.
Fiscalization requirements include a fiscal printer and POS application whereas both must be certified before usage.
The certificate is issued by The NAV (Hungarian Tax and Customs Office).
The type of fiscalization is hardware base focused. Strict handling of integration of the POS software with the printer (error handling, mandatory functionalities, etc.) is also defined within the current fiscal requirements.

Latest changes in fiscal law
Based on the adopted amendment in the Hungarian Parliament, a new option for customers in Hungarian stores is now available.
For no more than twice a month, for a maximum of HUF 40,000, any customer can ask for and receive cashback from the seller when paying by card. This cashback service, in case the retailer allows for its usage in his store, would be free of additional fees such are those that money withdrawal from ATMs would entail.
Regarding the mentioned novelty, the change concerning stores in Hungarian fiscalization is included in the amendment to the package of proposals concerning the financial sector, which was adopted by the Legislative Committee of the Parliament.
