The things I carry in my mobile office
After the Phoenix Business Journal Published my article on what I put in my mobile office, I received a lot of questions on what particular models of products I used.
On a related note, my full backpack, minus that snacks I may or may not carry at any given time, weighs around 17 lbs.
Here is my list:
USB Monitor
There are way too many options for monitors out there... but this one has traveled the world well. It is the max resolution that you can get at a reasonable price and comes in a very sturdy case that holds it up, protects it, and can serve as a lap desk when needed.
Small Mouse
Lots of options out there but this one seems just the right size for me. And cheap enough so I don’t cry when I lose it.
Backpack
These backpacks are great for carrying two screens and all my stuff in various pockets. It is a bit big. The brand has smaller options but make sure it will hold your USB monitor.
Wheeled Backpack
I did not buy this. But when I was thinking about getting a roller bag, this was my choice. Same brand, but with wheels. And it fits on top of your carryon like a backpack. This one is truly the best of both worlds and when my decades of slouching in front of a keyboard catch up with me, I'll get one of these.
Slide Advancer
Be the hero during a presentation by pulling this from your bag. Simple, small, and so far it has worked with every computer I’ve used it with.
USB Speaker
I debated if I should go with better sound or other features and I decided on other features for these guys. They have good sound for the size, have a magnetic base, are waterproof, have a cool rubber case, and can be separated. And they are cheap… because I do lose things.
USB Splitter
Many small laptops only have one USB port, and I use that for my second monitor. This splitter is thin, durable, and USB 3. There are smaller options but sometimes I actually use all 4 ports.
Video Adaptor
/
This has been a lifesaver. It goes from the display output on my surface, which no projector or monitor uses! to HDMI, VGA, and digital.
Note: This is for Surface Pro and some Apple products. Get one that plugs into your laptop. Even if you have an HDMI port.
