Hello and welcome to the SLG Agency newsletter for June.

It’s impossible to say if ‘it’s coming home’ or not, but summer is certainly here, at least at the time of writing.

It’s not just the weather that’s been hotting up, with an imminent General Election and increasing levels of activity in several construction markets, it feels like an exciting time to be in the sector.

That’s certainly the feeling of this SLG newsletter as we share some our latest musings, offer another chance to access our TruthScore brand tool, and an advance look at some of the exciting work we’ve been delivering this month.

Is the 'Age of Brand' really over?

It doesn’t take much to get marketers excited, but the recent Uncensored CMO podcast with Professor Scott Galloway certainly got people talking.

As he tends to, ‘Prof G’ was something of a provocateur on the show, but his comments on the death of brand really raised eyebrows. Here’s one of the key quotes: ?

“The brand has diminished in power, [and] product is the new black again… If you have a truly better product then people will talk about it online and word will get out, so a lot of the capital has been taken out of marketing and is being reinvested in things like supply chain.”

For those of us that obsess (a little) over both brand and marketing effectiveness, the quotes cut deep, and there’s been plenty of conjecture about the validity of Galloway’s opinion on the topic.

Slight spoiler alert, but we’re not convinced that the end is nigh for brand.

In fact, the prevailing literature and studies show us that there’s no bigger factor in determining marketing effectiveness than the size of the brand (sorry to the small-er brands reading this).

Lights, camera, sneak peak...


Our creatives have been busy this month bringing several concepts to life, including a trip down to Maesteg, South Wales to work on an exciting brand film for Siderise.

Across a two-day shoot the team, led by creative director Tom Vardy, worked around the clock at multiple locations to create a piece that captures the essence of the business and its people.

The final piece will be launched soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
